Gintama - Yoshiwara in Flames (Part 1)

I saw your youtube video and was like "can't wait, gotta see the whole thing right now." XD gintama fights are fire, but they are also fire because of our emotional attachment to these characters, you show people that haven't seen the show these fight scenes and they are impressed, but it doesn't have the same impact when you know the full story. Tsukki is bae, I'm 99% sure everyone that sees her intro immediately falls in love with her <3 Love your reactions!

I know Kagura dont want to loose against her Yatoblood, but damn this fight was just too crazy it was absolutely worth it 🤯 I love those "real" and serious fights in Gintama, no special attacks nor screaming names of every attack, and they re not afraid to show a lot of blood ^^

the way sorachi wrote hinowa in this arc was god tier like it was a perfect example of writing a strong female character that doesn't have to be a fighter like kagura or tsukuyo

Infodump: -Yoshiwara was a real life red-light district (it obviously did not exist underground, but it was walled off and surrounded by a moat to prevent escapees) that existed from 1617 until 1958. Originally created by the shogunate to be a red-light district for the middle-class, it ended up becoming the most popular one in Edo. Today, the land it existed on is that of a normal Tokyo suburban neighborhood, though there are shades of its past in the form of a few modern day soaploads and “massage” parlors still there. -The life of a Yoshiwara courtesan (prostitute) was, while not quite as bad as in Gintama, was still pretty bad. Most of the women were sold there by their parents and forced to undergo training in things like tea ceremonies, musical instruments, etc, but for the customer, not themselves. After training, a girl’s virginity would be sold off for tons of $$$. STDs were also highly prevalent, though healthcare for the courtesans was almost nonexistent. -The arc name “Yoshiwara in Flames,” while metaphorical in this instance, is named after, iirc, a movie, and how the actual Yoshiwara was infamous for suffering large fires and had to be rebuilt multiple times. -If you didn’t realize, the scars Tsukuyo and other Hyakka have are what they meant by “forsaking their womanhood.” By scarring their faces, they weren’t “courtesan material” And couldn’t be prostitutes -“Hinowa,” coincidentally enough, has the kanji “日(Sun)” in her name. -On the opposite side of the spectrum, “Tsukuyo” has the kanji “月(Moon)” in her name. -Thus, you could say Hinowa protects the women of Yoshiwara in public/the light while Tsukuyo protects them in the shadows. -The Yato clan, owing to their Chinese motif, mainly fight using Kung-Fu, though there is some grappling thrown in. -Abuto has the same VA as Jiraiya from Naruto. -Kamui is written/modeled on Goku if he had no morals/humanity. END OF INFODUMP Lastly, I just wanna point out how the fight choreography Gintama (an action comedy gag series) in fights such as, but definitely not limited to Kagura vs Abuto, is fucking incredible, and better than most of fight choreography in modern day “Battle” Shonen. And yes JetRod, it was #5 on that “top 10 fights” video you reacted to, but that list was made before the final 2 seasons/serious arcs and final movie, and if redone would (at least IMO) probably actually be closer to #9 or #10 now. So lots more fights even better than this to look forward to! That’s all folks!
