Gintama - 157 & 158 Reaction

Gintama - 157 & 158 Reaction

Comments

I have the Otsu cd and I listen to a few tracks more often than I should probably admit on the way home from work lmao. Honestly wish they had done more than 1 cd.

I love how Hijikata is the antagonist this arc

Sadaharu is my favorite out of the two mascots, but thats because of future episodes. Otsu arc is hilarious, love the reactions! I will gladly join your Gintama fan club for the tournament arc XD

Thank you so much!

I copy and pasted your comment from my email, so your hard work wouldn’t go to waste 😂 here it is: Infodump: Arc specific: -This is the longest comedy arc in the series, going from 157-163, thereby making it 7 episodes, almost as long as Yoshiwara in flames arc (1 less) -The morning show skit at the beginning of these episodes is a parody of Japanese comedian Tamori-san’s variety the show “Waratte Iitomo (It’s Ok to Laugh),” which aired from 1982-2014. Gintama’s version is called “It’s Ok to Sing.” Tamori-San himself holds the world record for most tv show episodes hosted, having hosted 8054 episodes. -The band at the beginning of the tv show skit is a parody of the IRL show’s band “The Young Group,” who point out in their lyrics that they are now, in fact, middle-aged. -The skit also pokes fun at how Gintama is still 4:3, despite the episodes at this point airing in 2009. Episode 157: -During their depiction as generals, Shinpachi and Hijikata are portrayed wearing the distinctive armor associated with Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin, respectively. Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin were both pre-eminent daimyō (AKA feudal lords) during the Sengoku period. They are particularly remembered for their lifelong rivalry with one another. Episode 158: -The 'o' in otaku is written in Japanese as "wo,” they do this to avoid having to pay royalties. It's standard practice in a lot of anime. -As was the case in the previous episode, when Shinpachi and Hijikata are portrayed as generals their distinctive armor suggests they are playing the parts of Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin, respectively.

Ok looks like my comment got deleted for whatever reason, after I wrote a really long one 😡. So here’s the gist of the infodump: Arc specific: -At 7 episodes, this is the longest comedy arc in the series -The Morning show skit at the beginning of the episodes is a parody of the Variety TV show "Waratte Iitomo (It’s Ok to Laugh),” which ran from 1982-2014 and was hosted by Tamo-San. Here in Gintama, it’s called “It’s Ok to Sing.” The IRL Tamo-San holds the world record for most TV episodes hosted by a single person, at 8054. -During their depiction as generals, Shinpachi and Hijikata are portrayed wearing the distinctive armor associated with Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin, respectively. Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin were both pre-eminent Feudal Lords during the Sengoku (or Warring States) period of Japan (1467-1615), and are particularly remembered for their lifelong rivalry with one another. Episode 157: -The fake open-ended ending Gin gave the Gintama manga is how manga that get suddenly canceled will typically end. Episode 158: -In this episode, the word “Otaku” is written in Japanese with the character for “Wo” at the beginning, not the character for “O.” This is done to avoid having to pay royalties. It's standard practice in a lot of anime.
