Infodump: -The SA arc is based on the IRL conflict known as the "2nd Choshu Expedition," or the "Summer War." In it, the shogun led government went to war with the rebellious Choshu state (which was aided by the IRL Kiheitai). Despite outnumbering the rebels by about 100 to 1, the rebels were able to win due to knowledge of the area, willpower (many of the shogun's troops only gave half-efforts, there were also traitors in the shogun's army), and most importantly, superior technology (the shogun's side was mostly composed of classic sword wielding samurai while the rebels had things like proto-gatling guns). -During the Choshu expedition, the reigning shogun, Tokugawa Iemochi (who Shigeshige is based on) died of heart failure, though there have always been conspiracies that he was poisoned. Tokugawa Yoshinobu (who Nobunobu is based on) then became the shogun. END OF INFODUMP -Some other foreshadowing: When we first see Nobunobu at the beginning of this arc, he says the same thing ShigeShige's assassin does: "You no longer have any allies in this world." -Look up the lyrics for Acchi Muite (the ED song). It's both cruelly ironic at times ("Cheer for this era!") and inspiring at others ("Now is the time for things to change!")

Same, its like "yeah, the comedy and fights are great, but I need you to suffer the same way I did when I learned this character's backstory." XD

"DO NOT GIVE ME CREDITS RIGHT HERE!" XD Bruh, such a sad ending, we were so close to everything at least ending alright, and then bam, Sorachi was like "what if all of their efforts ended up being for nothing anyway?" Like, bro, what an evil genius. Yeah, Shogun died, right in his sister's lap, how sad. I was in such shock from this arc, I think I sat in front of my computer dumbfounded for a hot minute. I remembered when I watched the earlier episodes always wanting Gin's backstory, wanting to see him fight in the war in all his badassery, then I saw this arc and just went "....alright, I don't need to know anymore. This was tragic in every way and I don't see this backstory getting any nicer or happier, we gonna just put a cap in it here." XD All Gin ever wants, and he says it constantly throughout the show, is to just move on and live the life he has now, and his past just keeps coming back to remind him of the trauma he had to endure. In all honesty, the next arc you will probably end up watching in one sitting, its just as good if not better than this one, I can't wait for that one as well!

Next 2 arcs are even better in my opinion but I wanted to call something out that I feel like a lot of people miss. You ever notice how Katsura wanted to be a samurai like Shoyo, and his character design as an adult is almost uncanny to his? We never see Katsura grieve about Shoyos death but I feel like his grievances are shown outwardly through his complexion. Idk, thought that was a pretty cool detail Sorachi put in.

The fact that Soyo didn't know what happened earlier and just thought she was giving tea to her brother like usual, and then caringly stroking his head knowing he would be tired.... while he was actually dying... in her arms.. Sorachi needs to pay for my therapy.

the arc ends the same as it began Shigeshige sitting as he drinks the tea his sister made for him only difference is the first one he longs to be just a brother than in the final scene he gets his wish and dies on his terms such a masterful character.

I don't think you're gonna be ready for the next arc bro. It's one episode longer so maybe 3 episodes a vid could work? Just spitballing though. Also yeah Shigeshige is gone. It's sad. Don't really want to give anything away for the next arc but I'd say when you're done you should rewatch the openings of particular episodes since there's some little nuances that change as you go on (especially for the arc that comes after the next one).

I'm not gonna lie, stuff like this is why I watch reactions in general. Reactions to funny stuff or cool fights are nice, but its you guys' pain that sustains me..
