The title for episode 308 (The day the demon cried) has to be the best title for a serious Gintama episode imo. The way it drops at the end after the tear from Hiji's eye is so good too! This one is the most sombre Gintama episode I think starting with the Shogun's funeral to the disbanding of the Shinsengumi and Hiji tearing up, it just feels like a different show altogether.

I love what Gintoki says about war, he's right, its so glorified and we paint the victors as heroes and in some ways makes people want to fight or go to war, but in the end, all it does is cause carnage neither side can recover from. One of my favorite quotes from this show. When Gin punched Nobunobu, *chef's kiss*, it was the most beautiful thing I had seen. And now we get the gumi and rebels together, who would have ever thought!

This arc really shows how much the Yorozuya care about the Shinsengumi. Gin going the extra mile to keep tabs on what Hiji is doing and supporting him to the best of his ability, even sharing his painful past with Hiji to encourage him to do what must be done. And then Kagura seeking out Sougo, knowing that he needed someone to remind him that he is no manslayer, but someone who protects. She really was trying to cheer him up in her own way, Then there is Shin who is just sulking and sad now that Kondo isn't stalking his sister anymore, and for a guy with a sis-complex that says a lot. Honestly Yorozuya and Shinsengumi may have started out as enemies/rivals who annoyed each other, but at one point it just shifted towards mutual respect and love, whilst they were just keeping up the appearance of annoyance. The Yorozuya and Shinsengumi have such a special bond an I love it. Sorachi is a mad genius.
