Magic Warrior Chapter 78

Rental House

When I woke up in the morning and looked out the window, it was overcast.

"It looks like it's going to rain."

As Rilfana said, it seems like it will rain.

"I think I'll just go to Reda-san's place today."

"Speaking of which, Steve told me that there's a shop that sells board games like the ones at the inn where we stayed the other night."

"If it doesn't rain, I'd like to stop by on the way home."

When I went to the guild, Reda-san was sitting at the reception desk.

As I left the inn late, most of the adventurers had already left, and it looked like they were having a slow day.

"Well, well, you seem to be working very hard."

"Thanks to you. I wanted to talk to you today, Reda-san."

"Hmm, what's up?"

"I was wondering if I could rent a room under the same conditions as last time."

"That would be a big help for me! Let's talk about the details in my room."

He jumped down from the chair, which was a little high for Reda-san's height, and started walking towards the guild master's room.

When I entered the guild master's room, the pile of papers that had been piled up the other day had been cleared away. There was quite a lot of it, but I wonder if it can be cleared away in a day or two.

I sat down on the chair as Reda-san had suggested, and Reda-san began to speak.

"I don't mind lending you a room in my house, but I'd like to know the conditions first. As I said before, the rent is two large silver coins per month. Sometimes, I'd like you to do the same amount of cleaning as before, and if it happens to be when I'm home, I'd like you to prepare dinner. That's all."

"If possible, I would also like to have a space for working, so I would appreciate it if I could rent two rooms and a corner of the garden."

"Oh, I only use one room for my bedroom and storage, so you can use the rest as you like as long as it doesn't bother the neighbors. As long as you tidy up when you leave, you can move the furniture around as you like."

That house had more than 10 rooms, but it appears that I can do as I please with them.

If they weren't using the furniture, why were they living in such a big house?

"When I took on the role of guild master of the Adventurers' Guild, I said I wouldn't use it anyway, but the Lord forced it on me."

With Reda-san's personality, it seems like he would probably live in the guild just because it would be troublesome if he didn't have a house. Even if he had a house, that's what he would do.

They seem to rent it out on favorable terms, so there's no reason to refuse.

The innkeeper said that the payment is due today, so I've decided to stay from tomorrow.

It seems they'll lend me a spare key tomorrow. I was only told to leave the key at the reception desk of the guild when I'm going away for more than two nights. I guess that's so they know we're not there even if we don't come back home.

"If you're coming tomorrow, you should hang out the futons, so it would be better to come early."

The whole house was covered in dust until we cleaned it.

It looks like it's going to rain today, but let's hope it clears up tomorrow.

He said that if we showed up at the guild tomorrow morning, they would show us around. He said he knew where the house was, but he also decided to go and see how the repairs to the collapsed wall in the basement were going.

It appears that the Lord has left the minimum maintenance, such as garden care and repairs, entirely to him.

The toy store was in the southeast district.

It's a place that's difficult to notice unless you're a local, tucked away off a side street.

There were many games that I was sure had been made by Reincarnation Players. Or rather, there were more than I expected.

It's not a huge store, but there are probably over 50 different types of board games crammed onto the shelves.

There are many games, such as ones where you compete to develop an island, card games where you try to get rid of pests, and territorial games where you build and renovate buildings on a map.

I think some of them were a little different from my memory, as I probably didn't remember the detailed rules.

There were also games that are popular in Japan, such as Reversi, Shogi, Chess, and playing cards.

Prices start at around two small silver coins. In this world of Virtuari, it appears that card games are more expensive than regular board games due to printing technology issues.

The cards used for secret information must be printed on the same paper or wooden board in the same way.

Simple printing machines exist in the world of magic, but when it comes to the level of precision required to print the same shape, it is necessary to use printing machines of the caliber of ancient artifacts. This is why the cost is so high.

To reduce costs, or in the case of games where it doesn't matter if other people can see it, many of them were placed inside boards for blindfolds.

"There are so many of them..."

"Yeah..."

"Why don't we all buy one thing that interests us and play with it?"

They say that for beginners, simple games with simple rules, such as card games, that can be played repeatedly in a short amount of time are good, but if the two of them don't choose one, it would be okay to buy one that takes a little longer. This is the type commonly referred to as a heavyweight or heavy game.

It took a while to choose, but they each bought a game.

"Oh, it's starting to rain!"

As they came upon an inn, it finally started to rain. The three of them rushed into the inn.

It looks like the three of us will be stuck in the inn for the afternoon.

After finishing lunch in the restaurant on the first floor, they decided to play their games straight away.

This room is good because we can spread out at the big table.

Clare is a card game with cute-looking pictures. It's a game where you compete for the strength of the cards you play, but there are many elements of chance, so it's easy to get into a heated match.

"I can win with this card!"

"Then I'll use this!"

"Clare's luck is too good..."

Clare won by a landslide.

Rilfana chose a strategy-based game. It comes in a box with fantasy-style artwork.

There are several ways to win, and depending on the character you choose first, your abilities will differ, so the direction you aim for, such as expanding your territory or strengthening your own territory, will change slightly. There are more strategies than you might expect, so it's difficult.

"Clare, let's trade resources with this one."

"Sure, why not?"

"You two are both so cunning!"

"Their strengths and weaknesses are completely opposite, so they mesh perfectly. That's also a strategy."

I outsmarted Rilfana and Clare and I finished first.

After that, when we played with different characters, Rilfana ended up in first place by a long way.

I bought a game where you run a farm and earn points. It's the type that takes a fair amount of time to play a single game.

"Mina-sama is too strong."

"It's fun to see the different farms that people create."

...Yeah, I've played the original with my brothers before, so I won hands down. The problem with this kind of game is that you have to play it many times before you understand the strategy.

I played it until I went to bed, except for when I had dinner and a bath. I'm relieved to hear that the board game was well-received by the two of them.

The next morning, after having breakfast at the inn, we cleared out our room and went to the guild.

Reda-san was waiting for us at a table that we could use freely, rather than at the reception desk.

"Good morning. Shall we get going?"

We headed for Reda-san's house along the same road as before.

"By the way, can you send a letter to Feld Village?"

My dad said I should send a letter if he can't come home, but I wondered how I would send it, so I asked Reda-san.

"Mark comes here once or twice a month, so you could wait for him to come and pick it up, or if it's urgent, you could ask an adventurer to deliver it for about 2 small silver coins. Feld Village isn't on the way to other towns, so it might be difficult to find an adventurer who will accept the request right away."

It appears that my father, who sometimes went back and forth between the town and the village, was delivering letters.

Well, it appears that the only people who receive important letters from outside the village are my father and the village chief. I didn't really pay much attention to it, but it seems that sometimes people who have married into the village from other villages receive letters.

Does that mean that if I forget to go back at the end of the month, my father will come to the town to check on me?

We arrived at Reda-san's house while chatting.

"Meanwhile, I'll show you the room I'm using, so you can choose the room that Mina-chan and the others will mainly use and tell me which one it is."

Reda-san uses the room at the front of the house, which is up the stairs on the left of the hall. She also told me that the room to the left of that is being used as a storage room. The only rooms left are the two rooms on the right and one room at the front of each end of the house.

There are also four rooms and three storage rooms in the basement for the servants to use, but there are no windows, so it would be better to use the rooms on the second floor.

"And please keep the rooms on the first floor empty as guest rooms. When Mark comes, he can stay there."

I've decided that my room will be on the far right, next to Rilfana's, and Clare will take the other side.

I also told him that I might be able to use the front of Reda-san's warehouse as a storage room. In reality, I plan to use it as a workshop using my production skills.

It's a big place, so three of us could probably share one bedroom, but Reda-san said we should decide on it first, so we decided to use it.

After that, I went to check the basement and found that the collapsed area had been neatly sealed up. It appears that this is the food storage area, so I'll buy some food later.

Reda-san gave me a spare key and went back to work. He also said he would let my father know that I had rented a room at his house. I think Reda-san is a considerate person.

"Let's at least hang out the futons."

"Yes!"

"Okay."

All the rooms upstairs were furnished with a wardrobe, bed, desk, table, chest of drawers and all the other furniture you need to live.

After airing out the futons, they went shopping for food, necessary tableware, and small items like toothbrushes. Rilfana was buying flower seeds, so I guess she's going to sprinkle them in the flowerbed.

For lunch, I had a meat sandwich from the shop I had stopped at earlier. They had added a different sauce, and a Japanese-style one using soy sauce had been added.

Time passes by in the blink of an eye while I'm tidying up the room.

For dinner, I decided to cook something simple while learning how to use the kitchen. I didn't eat much when I ate out, so I made it mainly with vegetables.

"As I thought, your home cooking is delicious."

"Yes, I want to be able to cook a little too."

We can both make simple dishes. It doesn't feel bad to be praised.

It was the first day, so I prepared a little extra food in case Reda-san came home, but it seemed like she wasn't coming back.

Clare wanted to play a bit more while she still remembered the rules, so we played a board game and then went to bed in our own rooms.

That night.

I went to bed thinking that sleeping alone in a room was just like living alone in Japan.

Hmm, I was thinking that I was feeling a little restless when the door was knocked on and Clare came in with a pillow.

"Big sister, can I sleep with you?"

Clare had never slept alone before, so she probably couldn't get to sleep.

"Yes, yes."

"Hehe, thanks big sister!"

I made a little space and tapped it, and Clare came in happily.

Since Rilfana came, I think we've slept together at least once every three days in the village, but somehow it felt like it had been a long time.

"It's not fair that Mina-sama and Claire-sama get to sleep together!"

The next morning, Rilfana came to wake me up, but for some reason she seemed angry.

In the end, from now on, we will be sleeping in the same room with the bed brought into my room.
