I Hate You Draft
Added 2019-02-10 15:31:46 +0000 UTCI did a long post about it on my blog, but I Hate You: A Cartoon Story Game For Two Good Friends is an idea I had ages ago that I’m now trying to turn into a reality. It’s a weird little story game thing aimed at classic cartoons with a “predator vs. prey” dynamic. The Coyote and Roadrunner cartoons are the most obvious take on these, but a big portion of Looney Tunes and their various spinoffs and competitors fit squarely into that framework. Since I came up with that way of looking at cartoons, I sometimes see it in other places, like how Project A-ko (the classic bonkers anime movie from 1986) would basically be an I Hate You game with anime schoolgirls and mecha.
The game definitely still needs some work. Figuring out a non-traditional game like this requires less text (it currently weighs in at 6400 words, and that’s with a lot of flavor text an examples) but is much harder to pull off (for me at least). The two playtests I’ve done so far were fun, but the dice mechanics feel off, and I’m not entirely sure what the game needs just yet. Regardless, I thought I’d share what I have so far with you guys.
