It went better than expected!
The idea with a small room filled with balloons started out as an action cam thing but then I switched to remote controlling our regular A7Siii on a gimbal from the next room over. Unfortunately the latest Sony firmware broke compatibility with the DJI Raveneye and I found that out 20 minutes before the shoot at a gear rental. Bugger! Switched back to the 360 cam idea. Figuring out the problem took too long though and I was late to the studio, around 40-50 minutes. That impacted the number of balloons we were able to prepare.
This particular cam (Insta 360 X-4) actually shoots in very high resolution but it warns you beforehand to only do it in cold environments or while moving so we had to opt for a middle res option. Obviously we had to keep the windows closed for the sake of audio and keeping the toys inside. It was sweltering in there! The girls managed to do it all in just two scenes; I masked the transition with a cool camera move. Admittedly these 360 cams do allow for some crazy moves. And split screen! I specifically instructed Celestine and Selenite to pop balloons in different parts of the room.
In order to make sure we still had a backup plan I placed the main cam in the corner of the room. I also put our shotgun mic on the stand (attached masterfully with gaffer tape) to have backup audio for the lavs. Neither of these measures ended up being useful but better safe than sorry.
