Hey everyone! Let me present to you the City of Sturdjal, the final map for the Capitals and City States theme.
The city of Sturdjal on the shores of Lake Fjurmann, has a layout of both fortitude and strategic advantage. Its centerpiece is a large stone castle, perched precariously atop a sheer cliff that overlooks the city below. The city itself is enclosed within a sturdy wooden wall, further fortified by a natural ravine that encircles it, effectively serving as a formidable ditch to thwart potential invaders. Across the shimmering lake lies Ovrkont, a collection of humble homes and farms, nestled within a protective wooden palisade, forming a twin settlement to Sturdjal.
The city's defining landmark is undoubtedly the grand castle, its grey stone walls jutting out dramatically from the cliffside, commanding the landscape. This imposing fortress is accessible only via a narrow wooden drawbridge, protected by guarded. Perched upon the northeast corner of the castle is a formidable guard tower, a watchful eye over the city. Within the castle's inner sanctum, the Chapel of Kordus is visited by the cities fiercest warriors. Yet, there are other places of worship, with the serene Shrine of Aladan, the Faerie of Seas, resonating with those drawn to the lake's mysteries, and the resplendent Church of Olanya, Goddess of Storms and Thunder, where tempestuous prayers find their solace. The city's lifeblood flows through the bustling shipyard and docks, strategically positioned between Sturdjal and the neighboring village of Ovrkont, fostering trade and prosperity.
The people of Sturdjal are a sturdy, pragmatic lot, molded by their unforgiving surroundings. Hardened by harsh winters and the constant specter of danger, they are marked by a deep sense of resilience and self-reliance. Loyalty to their sovereign, King Fjurmann I, runs deep, as does their devotion to the gods, be it Kordus, Aladan, or Olanya. While they harbor a deep sense of caution and pragmatism, they also possess a strong sense of community, often coming together in times of adversity to protect their city and their way of life.
The history of Sturdjal is a tale of resilience and transformation, echoing the indomitable spirit of its people and the evolution of Knurden as a whole. Once a modest fishing settlement in the harsh Fjords, Sturdjal's origins lie shrouded in obscurity, as the clans of the region warred and struggled to eke out an existence. It was only with the rise of Fjurmann Ojntund, whose fierce determination and legendary battle against a rival clan earned him a place in history, that Sturdjal began its ascent to prominence. Under his leadership, the clans united, forging the Kingdom of Knurden, with Sturdjal as its capital. Over time, the city's strategic location on the shores of Lake Fjurmann, its imposing stone castle, and its formidable defenses became symbol of the kingdom's strength.
