170. Imporvished Ancestor

"Ah, you’re right, I didn’t think this through."

Prompted by Uchiha Gin’s reminder, Ōtsutsuki Hamura imagined the size of the Tenseigan in his mind.

Realizing it would be challenging to wield alone, he replied with a hint of apology,
"Is there anything else, then?"

Although he was already determined to get that "big eye," he decided to squeeze out whatever he could from this old man.

"Interested in puppet techniques?"

Hamura thought for a moment, recalling the figurines he once crafted out of boredom.

With a spark in his eyes, he asked,
"No, I already have a powerful technique I’m holding onto. Your simpler puppets won’t do."

Gin scoffed, pointing to his own eyes. "I haven’t even tapped into all of the old man’s inheritance yet. Just wait—I’ll blow the minds of relics like you."

"Isn’t there any stronger ninjutsu, or a weapon? I’d take anything at this point."

Gin looked at Hamura with suspicion, wondering if he was dealing with a truly impoverished ancestor who had nothing more to offer.

"I don’t know this ninjutsu you speak of," Hamura replied, frowning.

In his time, "ninjutsu" wasn’t a concept; battles were pure force.

And when they got serious, they wielded Truth-Seeking Balls, where the winner stood tall.

He had no need for flashy techniques his descendants on earth developed.

"As for weapons, my staff was a product of Yin-Yang Release, long since dissipated with my death."
Hamura shrugged, seemingly admitting his poverty with a resigned gesture, as if all he had left was his old face and nothing else.

"Any unique abilities, then?"
Gin wasn’t giving up so easily. After all, Hamura was one of the first Ōtsutsuki to adapt to earth—surely he had something unique?

"There is the power of Yin."
Hamura’s eyes sparkled as he revealed this.

"Hand it over!"

That was exactly what Gin wanted.

In the late stages of the story, Sasuke used that very power to awaken the Rinnegan.

With this, Gin could potentially soar to great heights.

"It’s gone—I gave it to my older brother."

"So what good are you?" Gin retorted, frustrated with Hamura’s evasiveness.

"Actually, the Tenseigan has another state."

Seeing Gin about to leave, Hamura finally decided to pull out his trump card, revealing the secret he had kept from even his brother.

"What?"

Gin stopped, wearing an expression that said, "I knew it!"

This ancestor wasn’t so simple.

No wonder the Hyuga clan could never rise, and the Kaguya clan fell early on. With such a selfish attitude, he couldn’t accomplish much.

"That narrow-minded thinking is disgraceful," Gin muttered to himself. "Isolationist thinking is the path to ruin."

"When someone possesses both the chakra of the Ōtsutsuki and the pure Byakugan of the Hyuga, their eyes can transform into a Tenseigan, granting mastery over Yin-Yang Release, as well as space-time abilities and even planetary destruction."

"And what must I do?"
Gin, knowing the story well, wasn’t easily misled.

After all, Toneri, the original Ōtsutsuki, unlocked the Tenseigan by swapping out his eyes with those of Hinata’s sister, Hanabi.

Since Gin didn’t have Ōtsutsuki chakra, even if his Byakugan were as pure as could be, it still wouldn’t awaken the Tenseigan.

"Patience. Isn’t there a Tenseigan among the branch family? Once you defeat them, I’ll teach you how to control it."

Hamura took hold of Gin as he prepared to leave and began explaining,

"The branch family sacrifices their own Byakugan to mature the Tenseigan. Now, there are fewer than a hundred Ōtsutsuki left on the moon."

Despite the regret in his eyes, Hamura also seemed to feel a tinge of pity for his descendants.

"Why not use the teleportation gate to the earth and ally with the Hyuga to restore your numbers?"

Gin asked, wondering why the Ōtsutsuki clan had chosen to live in isolation on the moon.

"We have a gate~"
A nostalgic glint appeared in Hamura’s eyes.

"Then why not use it?"

"It’s locked."

"...What?"

"I said, it’s locked!"

"Who would dare lock you out?"

"It was my brother."

Hamura’s face flushed slightly as he explained the embarrassment of the situation.

"Why? Weren’t you close brothers?"

"Sometimes, it’s better not to know too much. Understand?"
Hamura tried to brush off the question, speaking in riddles.

"At a time like this, you’re still hiding things? After all these years, is there still something to be shy about?"

A long-haired man interrupted, seemingly impatient. He wanted the branch family eliminated and couldn’t understand why Hamura was so evasive.

"Isn’t it because he’d often sneak to earth to seduce women, causing chaos both on the moon and the earth?"

Shocked by the revelation, Gin couldn’t believe it—the younger brother of the Sage of Six Paths, a playboy!

"Ahem, those were mutual feelings, and I promised them a view of the moon."

Hamura flushed with embarrassment, shooting a warning glare at the long-haired man who had exposed him.

"So, why did your brother seal the portal?"

"He wanted to prevent any evildoers from invading the moon, so he locked the gate with his sword." Hamura sounded firm and composed, as though his explanation held unshakable logic.

Gin reluctantly agreed, sensing Hamura might send him to see his elder brother if he showed any doubt.

"So that black sword underwater was the lock his brother used to keep earthlings out?" Gin thought, deeply impressed by Hamura’s brother’s sense of responsibility.

"Then how did I get here if the gate is locked?" Gin frowned, realizing the inconsistency.

"Good question. I’ve been wondering the same. In theory, only someone as strong as my brother could break the seal," Hamura mused.

"I don’t remember becoming an Ōtsutsuki!" Gin interrupted.

"Don’t want the Tenseigan?" Hamura hinted.

"Uh, actually, I think Ōtsutsuki sounds quite good," Gin quickly replied, humorously writing the Ōtsutsuki surname for himself.

"Complete this task, and I’ll teach you a space-time technique to return to earth."
Hamura promised Gin, who immediately felt respect for his ancestor’s selflessness.

"Great! You’re the best ancestor! I’ll burn you a whole cart of beauties when I get back."

Gin blurted out in his excitement, realizing too late the inappropriateness of his words.

"Mind your words!"
Hamura suddenly looked like a venerable sage, his face solemn, making Gin feel ashamed.

"Go fulfill your mission. The future of the world is in your hands."
Without waiting for Gin to respond, Hamura sent him back to the ruined city he’d been in before.

After regaining his bearings, Gin heard a familiar, old voice whisper, "Add a roast chicken too, the more, the better!"

It seems he was truly starving—he was even craving roast chicken.

Having accepted the hidden mission added by Otsutsuki Hamura, Uchiha Gin was now convinced that everything he had just experienced was no dream. He took a deep breath and looked toward the floating islands in the sky. That must be the last remaining base of the Otsutsuki branch family.

Turning his head, he noticed the massive crescent-shaped emblem hanging among the islands— the clan symbol of the Otsutsuki branch.

The sphere in the middle of the crescent was likely where the Tenseigan was hidden.

Now that he had marked the location on his map, Uchiha Gin was ready to wrap things up quickly. His goal was to take down the remnants of the Otsutsuki branch and head back home to relax as soon as possible.

At this point in the timeline, not even Otsutsuki Toneri would be a problem—he wasn’t even born yet, just a bundle of cells.

As for those who remained unnamed in the original story, their power was hardly worth worrying about. This side quest should be an easy sweep.

“Beep beep beep! Intruder detected!”

Just as Uchiha Gin was thinking about how to breeze through, a group of figures wrapped in bandages descended from the sky, surrounding him in a dense, inescapable crowd.

Their lifeless eyes fixated on him, repeating the phrase like broken records, “Intruder detected.”

Well, he hadn’t even made the first move, and they were already serving themselves up. Smirking, Uchiha Gin quietly refined his chakra, planning to give his distant "cousins" a small taste of his Earth techniques as a greeting.

“The intruder is over there!”

Just as Uchiha Gin was about to unleash his power, a few lively voices rang out.

Not sensing any malice from these newcomers, he let the chakra in his hands dissipate, frowning as he looked at the charming figures rushing toward him.

“Ladies! It’s a man! A handsome man!”
