As Qian Renjue’s gaze swept over the three objects, the system’s descriptions echoed in his mind.
The two silver, chopstick-like metal rods were the Dragon-Seeking Rulers. They could detect dragon lairs within a certain range, serving as beacons for locating dragon blood.
Then, there was the blood-colored dagger, the Blood Weep Blade, a powerful tool capable of extracting different bloodlines.
When he saw the descriptions of these items, an idea flickered in Qian Renjue’s mind. However, before he could dwell on it, his attention was drawn to the last item, a spherical pendant.
The Memory Revealing Pearl (Sealed), a byproduct of "Dream of the Yellow Millet."
This pearl was meant to separate and store memories, which should have faded along with dreams but persisted due to its sealed state, awaiting release.
Seeing the Memory Revealing Pearl on the table, Qian Renjue felt a spark of joy, cursing at the "dog system" for withholding this from him with its carefree mantra of "let it come naturally."
Noticing the joy on Qian Renjue’s face, Liu Erlong grew excited, bending down to look at him and asking, “Ah Jue, is there a way to recover your memory?”
“Wait a moment.” With Liu Erlong’s question, Qian Renjue came back to reality.
How could he unseal the Memory Revealing Pearl?
The system hadn’t given any instructions.
He raised his eyes to look at Liu Erlong, taking her hand and guiding her to sit beside him. “Dean Liu, give me a moment to think.”
“Okay.” Liu Erlong nodded, her eyes full of hope, careful not to disturb Qian Renjue
Settling Liu Erlong, Qian Renjue steadied himself and called to the system, “System! Tell me how to unseal the Memory Revealing Pearl!”
"Dear host, let it come naturally."
“Again with this line?!”
Frowning, Qian Renjue had a bad feeling and pressed further, “Can the seal even be unlocked? I have plenty of points if needed!”
But no matter how he asked, the system’s response remained the same pre-programmed line.
"Dear host, let it come naturally."
Frustrated, Qian Renjue held back his urge to curse outright.
He’d always known the system could be annoying, but he hadn’t expected it to turn into a broken machine.
Liu Erlong saw his troubled expression and gently tugged on his sleeve, offering a slight smile. “Ah Jue, don’t rush. We can take our time. I’m willing to wait as long as it takes.”
Qian Renje looked at her in surprise, his purple eyes softening.
He felt a pang of heaviness; Liu Erlong was still comforting him, despite feeling sadness.
“Ah Jue, ” she whispered, grasping his sleeve and then his arm. With tears in her eyes, she laughed and cried, “I’m happy…happy that you care so much about me, about our memories.”
Qian Renjue silently raised his hand to gently brush her tear-streaked face. “Dean Liu, please don’t cry. I’ll try another way.”
“Yes, I...I won’t cry anymore.” Liu Erlong tried to hold back her sobs, but her tears continued to fall.
Qian Renjue could only lift the spherical orb and study it.
The orb, about the size of a dragon’s eye, wasn’t glass or gem, but looked like the thin, fragile sugar coating on a candied fruit. Inside, a golden mist swirled.
Lifting the sphere, he explained to Liu Erlong, “Dean Liu, this is called the Memory Revealing Pearl. My memories are sealed inside.”
Hearing this, Liu Erlong’s tears started to subside.
“The...the Memory Revealing Pearl?”
“Yes,” he nodded, going on, “But it’s sealed, and I don’t know how to open it.”
Liu Erlong gingerly took the pendant, holding it with hope-filled eyes, and asked, “Then…what should we do?”
“What else? Try to unseal it,” Qian Renjue shrugged. Without system guidance, he’d have to rely on his own instincts.
With that, he bit his fingertip, drawing blood and letting it drip onto the sphere in her hand. Liu Erlong held her breath as they watched, but nothing happened.
He sighed, looking at her. “Dean Liu—”
Before he could finish, she mimicked him, biting her own finger and letting her blood fall onto the pendant, but again, nothing changed.
Feeling disappointed, she looked at Qian Renjue, who continued to ponder.
Gathering her spiritual energy, she directed it toward the pearl, but it had no effect.
“Dean Liu, what are you doing?” he asked, stunned as she held the sphere in the air. Liu Erlong tilted her head back, and to his shock, stuck out her pink tongue, giving the pearl a gentle lick, then another...
Qian Renjue stared, wide-eyed.
After a few attempts, seeing no results, she stopped and cleaned her mouth, a blush spreading across her face as she murmured, “Ah Jue, it looked so much like candied fruit, I wanted to try.”
“Kind of makes sense,” he replied, nodding in a serious tone.
With her cheeks even redder, she offered him the pearl, suggesting shyly, “Maybe you should try…since it’s your memory?”
“Me?!” he stammered, eyeing the dragon-eye-sized pearl, still glistening with her saliva. He had absolutely no desire to lick it himself.
“I...I’ll clean it for you.” She quickly dunked it in tea, rinsing it thoroughly, then held it out to him again with hopeful eyes.
Looking at the candy-like pearl and recalling the system’s cryptic replies, he swallowed his saliva, feeling a strange urge to give it a try.
