So, I just watched the Video Commentary for "Empire of Death" and this is what Russell T Davies said at the "real mum" scene: "I love how she makes that mistake there, because Carla's her real mum. But it's all so new that it's - I mean there's more of this family to come - and the moment she calls Louise her real mum, which you wouldn't do, but she shouldn't do - but you would do in the moment. I remember thinking long and hard about that and going for it. [...] it's still a mess. That's why she's got to leave the TARDIS. She's got to go and find out who she is and who her father is and who her birth father is, for Carla to be her real mum..." So it looks like that was an intentional mistake which will be explored further in the next season. I get the frustration though. I guess we'll have to wait a year to see how that plays out!

2024-06-22 03:21:32 +0000 UTCTbh, with the Sontarans they're a clone species so it's possible that there were natural female sontarans but they died out after artificial cloning became a thing, I feel like that could explain why they use 'he' instead of 'they'. There's probably some explanation in expanded media
