Changes to Patreon Fees (UPDATED)
Added 2017-12-12 02:00:15 +0000 UTCUPDATE: Patreon is no longer making this change. I've written a new post about what this means for The Sewers of Paris: https://www.patreon.com/posts/update-changes-15874702
----------------
Hi Sewers of Paris supporters!
You might have heard there've been some changes at Patreon. Last week creators were informed that Patreon is changing the way they apply payment fees. Previously, creators covered those charges, but under the new system starting December 18, patrons will be charged 2.9% plus 35 cents for each pledge.
I preferred the old system where I covered the fees, but unfortunately that's not an option anymore. All Patreon accounts are being moved to the new system. For The Sewers of Paris, this means that the fee will be applied for each episode, because we're on the pledge-per-post system instead of the pledge-per-month system.
I'd been thinking about making some changes to the Sewers of Paris Patreon starting in the new year, including new content, rewards, and moving to a monthly system. Now I'm going to try to make those changes as soon as possible to minimize the impact of the fees on you.
In the meantime, you can always put a monthly cap on your pledges so you'll never be charged over a certain amount. If you're currently supporting the show at $1, a $4 monthly cap would help minimize your fees. (Here’s instructions for doing that.)
If the new fees mean you’re no longer able to support the show, I totally understand.
I'm so grateful to everyone who who has supported The Sewers of Paris, especially the $1 patrons -- I could not make the show without you. It means a lot that the show is possible thanks to a community of listeners contributing together. And as I consider changes I’ll be sure to keep you in the loop -- if you have any thoughts or feedback please don’t hesitate to be in touch: @sewersofparis on Twitter and sewerspodcast@gmail.com. And until next time... croissant.
Matt

I saw that Patreon changed their mind on twitter just after making the change. Lol. I’ll keep it like this for the month and then maybe change it next month or in February. Thanks for bringing such excelllent guests and guiding them through wonderful interviews. The latest looks very interesting!

2017-12-14 15:14:14 +0000 UTCHi! Patreon is no longer going to be implementing this change. Here's their post about that: https://blog.patreon.com/not-rolling-out-fees-change I've written an update about what this means for Sewers of Paris: https://www.patreon.com/posts/15874702 Thanks so much for supporting the show, and if you want to stick with the monthly cap that's totally fine. I'm still thinking about offering more content and going to a monthly system, and I'd love to get your feedback on that! There's a survey in my latest post about whether you'd prefer per-post or per-month. Thanks again!

2017-12-14 03:11:35 +0000 UTCI’m thinking of changing my support this way to maximize your income and minimize my fees until you change to monthly. I’m upping it to $5 per episode and then capping it at $5 per month. If you like this work around, feel free to share.
