April Update: Videos, Podcasts, Livestreams, and a Party!
Added 2019-04-02 16:00:03 +0000 UTCHello friends!
Welcome to the month named after the true hero of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles saga. I hope you're having a fruitful spring, and that you've sufficiently aired out your cutoffs for the warm weather ahead.
Here's what your support will make possible in April:
- April 6 - Livestream: Come say hello, share your recommendations, and make friends in the chat! I love getting your suggestions for stuff to watch and read so let's talk about all the queer entertainment that’s lighting up your life! Click the bell over here to get a reminder when we go live.
- April 9 - Sewers of Paris bonus episode with Tabletop Potluck's Ray Goldberg: More fascinating stories from Beyond the Sewers of Paris! This month, I'm chatting with the delightful Ray Goldberg about how geeky pleasures made them who they are today.
- April 20 - Livestream: Yes, another one! I'll be joined by Isabella Price, host of the Nocturnal Emissions queer/horror/burlesque screening series!
- April 26 - Culture Cruise video: All backers get early ad-free access to a new Culture Cruise video! I’ll diving into some more nostalgia with a close look at queer content in the entertainment we love. And in case you missed it, check out last month's video about Roc and TV's first same-sex wedding, as well as my interview with gay TV pioneer Jeffrey Duteil, who wrote your favorite episode of The Golden Girls!
- Every Monday - Cozy Pants: A podcast for Patreon backers at $4/month and up! Join me and my partner James for a fun affectionate chat about the cultural comforts that are lighting up our lives. Recent topics include a CONTROVERSIAL TAKE on whether Oscar Wilde is actually funny; our terrible drag names; Duck Tales' moon music; special guest film scholar Bryan Wuest; and a weekly book club segment about Tyra Banks' AMAZING fantasy novel Modelland.
- Every Thursday - Sewers of Paris: Each week on The Sewers of Paris, a guest plucks a piece of entertainment from their past -- books, movies, music, shows, and more -- and answers the question: how did it change your life?
- Every Friday - Weekly Debrief: Get caught up on the week's LGBTQ news, how it affects you, and actions you can take! Weekly Debrief is your quick weekly roundup of everything you need to know about what's happening with queer people in the world and how you can help.
And! I'm SUPER EXCITED to invite you to newish thing that I'm working on! Every Saturday at 11am Pacific, I'll be playing Dungeons & Dragons with some lovely queer friends. Join Brian Moreno, Connor Olmstead, Justin Saint, and Jen Vaughn along with James Morris as DM and we delve into Waterdeep on a fun friendly adventure! Join us every Saturday at 11am Pacific at: https://www.twitch.tv/prettyprettypixel
We're also deep into a fabulous queer quest on the podcast Queens of Adventure, featuring drag queens playing Dungeons & Dragons! Subscribe at QueensOfAdventure.com.
I'll also be attending some other fun live events in April. I'm not hosting these, but if you're in town I hope you'll come say hello!
- April 6: Steven Rowley reading -- The wonderful Steven Rowley, author of Lily and the Octopus and the new book The Editor, will read from his book and answer questions at Elliott Bay in Seattle. Steven's a lovely guy and a good friend and I'm so excited to see him!
- April 18: Slumber Party Massacre 2 -- Isabella Price hosts a wonderful screening series of classic horror, complete with a live pre-show featuring sexy dancing, games, and obscure movie clips. It's like Elvira re-invented!
- April 27: Daddy Issues -- I'm photographing a fun sexy party at Queer Bar featuring good-looking queers from across the gender spectrum, including some invisible wavelengths. Come join us and let me take a picture of you looking cute!
Can't wait to share all this stuff with you, and hopefully see you at one of those events!
Thanks again for backing so many video, audio, and live endeavors. You're a vital part of making the Internet as gloriously queer as possible, and I'm grateful for your support every single day. <3
Matt
