October Update: The Parties are Advised to Chill
Added 2020-10-04 06:00:02 +0000 UTCHello friends!
There's a brisk snap in the air, a cool autumn breeze and the howl of a wolf signaling the start of what will surely be an extremely bizarre Halloween season. How are you planning to enjoy this strange spooky season? I've been taking a fresh look at one of my favorite films, The Addams Family, in the context of The Munsters, Bewitched, and I Dream of Jeannie -- all strange imaginative fantasies about secrets and disguises, the perfect brew for this time of year. (There may be a video on that topic in the works.)
And hey, I want you to be the first to know about something new I'm starting: A newsletter! Okay yes I know, newsletters are not new. Personally, my association with newsletters is the monthly Quilters' Guild newsletter that my mother used to get sometime in the 1980s, and I hope that mine can be half as cool as that one was. I'll be sending them out once a week with a little update on what I'm working on, links to fun stuff I've found, and pictures of interesting and/or adorable animals. Sign up at mattbaume.com.
Of course, I hope it goes without saying that I am eternally grateful for your support, particularly in these uncertain times! Here's some of the stuff that you'll be making possible this month:
- Culture Cruise! A deep dive on queer content in the entertainment we love! Check out my latest video, all about the TV show Dinosaurs and its unlikely connection to a gay Transylvanian dinosaur hunter of the 1800s.
- The Sewers of Paris! Each week on the podcast, a guest plucks a piece of entertainment from their past -- books, movies, music, shows, and more -- and answers the question: how did it change your life? Recent guests include shark expert Chris Pepin-Neff, gay romance novelist Philip William Stover, and a re-release of my 2016 interview with BenDeLaCreme.
- Livestreams! It's a true delight to spend time chatting with folks live -- this month's livestreams will be on October 10 and October 24th. Click the bell here to get a reminder when the next one goes live.
- Cozy Pants! A podcast for Patreon backers! Join me and my partner James for a fun affectionate chat about the cultural comforts that are lighting up our lives.
Also! I've started writing comic book and video game reviews for The Stranger, which has been a great joy. (I'm also on the "furry news" beat, whenever there's excitement in that world, so please send me tips if you happen to hear of anything.)
And once again, I want you to know how grateful I am to you for being a member of my Patreon in this very unpredictable time. It means so much that you believe in what I do, and I am delighted every single day that I get to make stuff for you.
Also, please enjoy this traditional folk song performed by Tim Curry.

I was introduced to Anything Can Happen on Halloween by a friend literally last night, so we are ringing in spooky season strong!
