Patreon sneak peek: The Nanny and her Queens

Hi Patreon friends!

Welp, somehow I went most of my life without ever seeing The Nanny, but as it turns out the show's pretty good. So good I made a whole video about it!

My latest video is all about how Fran Drescher managed to set her show apart when it comes to queer storylines, at a time when TV was not particularly welcoming. Mark your calendars for the premiere over on my YouTube channel -- Sunday May 2 at 11am pacific. The premiere will start with a livestream where we can meetup and talk about the show, the gay 90s, and Fran's fascinating connection to the queer community -- then at noon the new video goes live. I hope you can join us for that!

(And as always, Patrons at $10+ will get early ad-free access.)

In the meantime, I wanted to give you a little sneak peek at how the video's coming along, and also show you some of the fun stuff that I turned up in my research but wasn't able to include in the final version.

And again, huge thanks for making my videos possible!

Hope you’re having a lovely afternoon and I’ll see you this weekend!

Matt

Aw yay glad you enjoyed the video! The whole show is such a gem, what a delight that it's streaming now. Everyone I've spoken to has so many fond memories of it.

My husband and I watched this video yesterday, and both of us loved it! It's been so long since we've seen the show itself that we had forgot a lot of these stories. Particularly liked the way you contrasted them to other shows from your other videos. Thanks for the reminder, and thanks to Fran for creating them.

There's even an episode where Mr. Sheffield uses the "you got some splaining to do" line!

TBH I haven't been able to stop thinking about what a great Dolly she must've been

Matt Baume

Wow I had no idea. I didn’t watch the show much but the Joanne Worley joke had me in stitches

ScoobySnacks

I really like your analogy of it being part Lucille Ball and part Sound of Music

Rory Chalcraft

I never knew how good it was!!! Fran really reminds me of Lucille Ball, I wish it hadn't taken me this long to start watching.

Matt Baume

I'm so looking forward to this one. I remember The Nanny and loved watching it
