Something bothering me about this page is the line about Psychics being in support of this action, even though it proves the stereotype about them, that they would use their powers to manipulate others.
But it doesn't seem like people considered ability vs intention. Being able to do something doesn't mean you will do it, or you want to do it. Much like how anyone can be capable of murder, but most people would not want to kill anyone.
It seems like, in this world, the other tyoes assume that, because psychic types CAN do these things, they WILL, without considering if they are actually the kind of people who would do these things, and this event may have solidified that belief in their minds. I can't imagine that there are no psychic types that don't want to use their powers in this way, that all of them are malicious and manipulative. Though I guess only the most extreme, sensational views get publication while more reasonable ones are drowned out. Kind of like page 85.

On a side note, Beheeyem is largely unknown in this world?! So they likely don't know that he specializes in memory manipulation.... Hooo boy...

And this is why, in the Sholan Alliance sci Fi novels, there's very specific rules about psychic rights and protections that ordinary people may not violate, in exchange for very harsh punishments for any psychic who abuses their powers - up to and including having the talent burned out of their minds altogether. Psychic gifts can be an amazing supplement to society; psychic therapists, psychic negotiators and diplomats, psychic crafters who can better understand what their customers are requesting... But the potential for violation needs to be addressed, and in a way that doesn't violate the psychic's rights either. This world doesn't have that balance point.
