So you completely ignore any bad qualities the fact he completely bullied people and acted like a complete asshat? In this episode he hits Deku for no reason what so ever. He has no reasons to act that way, no "tragic" backstory besides his fanboys hyping him. I suppose, like you said he was strong so that is all that matters for some fans. I certainly wouldnt call him a breath of fresh air like the OP or a pretty good guy at this point in the show. Sure he grows some later. That said, acting bad and having a good heart isnt exactly a novel concept in anime or any recent stories. I guess some of us can overlook the poor behavior if the character is cool and this is mostly why fans are split on the character.

But then his character development got really interesting and I think he's a breathe of fresh air since he's not that bad of a guy, he has pretty good motives, he admires all-might and wants to be a hero, he also want to be the best since he was naturally gifted, people's expectation of him made him that way. He acts in a bad way, but has a good heart, you know ? To me that's interesting. Also idk if you've seen the latest episode or if you read the manga, but you might change your mind with what happens after

Not tryna say Deku is a basic or boring character, but just about every protagonist or side character in anime has some common writing. The passionate, humble, selfless type. Bakugos character is such a breathe of fresh air while still remaining inspirational, and I think it was intentional

When bakugo get slammed by allmight, as we just saw, in the sub, he literally says "this man is the highest wall". In the dub he says "he's not just powerful, he IS power. this man is the most unstoppable force in the world". Which I think is infinitely cooler. There's a lot that seems to get lost in the translation in this show. The first season is 100% better dubbed, and there are plenty of moments in S2, just like this episode, where the dub just makes so much more sense to English viewers. From the 3rd season on though, the sub is by far superior.
