That's weird i never really hated them, except for how hey killed Marco, i didn't really see anyone as good or bad by the end of the show since most of the crew committed crimes and made some shitty excuse about how you need to abandon humanity to move forward. Especially after season 4? and what Eren did, i would like to know how you feel about his actions since you hate them so much

I get that people feel bad for Reiner and Bertolt because they are technically products of their environment and also because, at this point in the anime, no one knew what their backstory was like. But when I was watching season 3 for the first time(haven't started S4 as of this comment), I literally could not have cared less about them and even actively scoffed at whatever they said lmao. Even before the whole reveal of Marley and the origin story of the walls at the end of S3, I already had speculations that Reiner and gang were possibly a different "race" from the people living inside the walls. But even then, I never could the life of me figure out what kind of civilization they must have grown up in for them to keep justifying their acts of terrorism as right or necessary. I was so baffled by their constant nonsense about how they HAVE to do what they keep doing (i.e. ruin regular ppl's lives just to fuel some sort of goal that their race wants to reach), about how they "didn't want to do this as well" and that "someone HAS to take on this villainous role we've been doing" for the sake of...what? Really, what exactly? I don't know at this point, so maybe my opinion of them could change later on in S4. But like, when I was watching S3 for the first time I genuinely could not come up with any reason to excuse what they'd done so far (slaughtering scores of ppl indirectly or directly by destroying the walls) to my very angry brain. I always just felt like they were giving the lamest, most irrational and most pathetic answers to whatever questions we as watchers had while wondering why they appeared at all. And rewatching this with you guys keeps reigniting the rage I had directed towards them haha

Annie shown emotionally distressed as she was forced to take Marco's ODM gear state makes it pretty bit eye-opening when you compare this with what she does later to the SC on their expedition (Eren's first expedition)! She didn't look like someone who would ever struggle to kill then, but now we can see that she definitely went to another place entirely in her mind when she attacked them. It also hurts to see that 180 on Reiner here as well, especially with the full context now. Annie and Bertholdt didn't want to kill Marco and Reiner at first was so resolute in what he was doing to Marco, that it was the right course of action, only to then break upon seeing him get eaten. It was heartbreaking to watch, especially when by the end of it all, we're left with a scene of all three of them not truly accepting or understanding what they just did...Rest in peace (again), Marco. You didn't deserve that... Bertholdt's monologue was also pretty sobering to read for me. In that moment, you could feel this sense of clarity that he was feeling. It was also a pivotal moment for his character too! Bertholdt has always been in the background and as Reiner stated, timid and meek. In this moment though, he ascended the heavens with calm and clarity and took his rightful place as the God of Destruction. The soundtrack "Apple Seed" playing in the background made that entire Bertholdt scene for me as well! Overall, Bertholdt was a huge standout this episode for me, and his development was simply fantastic.
