Attack On Titan S3 Ep 20
Added 2022-12-22 19:00:03 +0000 UTCWow. A lot of information in this episode!!!!!
Comments
A bit late but I really enjoyed this episode specifically the part when they found out about Zeke. But I was only able to enjoy their genuine reactions because they didn’t try to predict who Zeke was. Had they tried to do that then the reaction would’ve been, “I was right!/ I was wrong”. Instead they enjoyed went along with the story and actually enjoyed and reacted to this episode.

2022-12-23 23:08:21 +0000 UTCOne suggestion for your reactions going forward: I, for one, would love to see you guys have lengthier post-episode discussions. Often, you have only a few sentences, or none at all. I would enjoy hearing more of your thoughts. Even if it's just 5-10 min at the end that people have the option to watch, or skip. ❤️

2022-12-23 06:32:42 +0000 UTCNot trying to be rude but I think Ron needs to watch a S1-S3 recap before starting S4. I heard him say he thought the beast titan was the king. I never heard him say it before so I don’t know how he came to that conclusion when the King died like 10 episodes ago.

2022-12-23 04:37:40 +0000 UTCFun Fact: In the scene where Grisha confronts the Marlyean police officer on top of the wall about killing his sister, the Marlyean officer looks directly into the camera and says: “But you know, people actually want to see cruelty.” Isayama (AOT’s creator/author) said he deliberately did this as a way to speak directly to the audience. In this scene he’s speaking to us saying that WE like to see cruelty too, and it becomes true when you think about how most of us wanted to see that Marlyean officer get ripped apart by that Titan at the end. Just Isayama being a brilliant writer.

2022-12-22 23:55:38 +0000 UTCFun fact, Eldians are pretty much inspired by the Jewish people in world war 2, the titans in the earlier seasons resembles the caricatures of Jewish people during this era, big heads, big noses etc Most of the names are German/Jewish names such as Levi, Ackerman, Eren, Grisha and more. The Jewish were hated (and still are in a lot of places) as people believed that they are devils or monsters, the difference here that the Eldians can actually turn into monsters. Even Paradise island resembles Israel in principle, it's supposed to be this remote haven that is safe for the Eldian people.

2022-12-22 23:36:48 +0000 UTCGlory to Eldia

2022-12-22 23:33:25 +0000 UTCA lot of S4 is mid tbh. Writing starts to get a bit shakey, but theres still really good moments
Flare
2022-12-22 23:31:30 +0000 UTCTo add to this point, in S2 when Ymir reads the can of herring, herring is a salt water fish but no one inside the walls should know what that is because they've never even seen the ocean. Only Reiner and BERUTORUTO would know this
Flare
2022-12-22 23:30:10 +0000 UTCSo now you guys know where Reiner, Bertholdt and Annie came from! Does this new info change how you feel for them in any way? Because for me, it kinda did...if their lives were anything like Grisha or Faye's, I can only imagine how hopeless they felt in their situation. Bertholdt's monologue in "Descent" carries so much more weight now...how "this world is just that cruel". When Mikasa said it before, she said the world was cruel and yet so beautiful but with Bertholdt, all he saw was just cruelty and I don't blame him for having such thoughts given how the Eldians are treated.
Lalisa Truong
2022-12-22 23:21:37 +0000 UTCWhat a revelation huh? If you look closely you can see all of grishas friends were the titans we see in s1. You can even see the Santa Claus titan that ate eren lol
Flare
2022-12-22 23:19:24 +0000 UTCYes. That scene in the manga was purposedly drawn to break the fourth wall. Gross spoke to the audience, and if the audience cheers at his violent death, it proves his point. Notice where all of them were standing? On a wall, we haven't seen before. Not Sina, Maria, or Rose. It's the 4th wall. Yes, he is breaking the fourth wall.

2022-12-22 21:18:41 +0000 UTCTo sum up this episode (no spoilers): -Ymir fritz (an eldian) made a pact with the devil 1800 years ago and gained the power of the titans. Later on she died and separated her power into 9 titans. Eldians believed they were superior so they started to colonize, and the ascendants of ymir became royals. Only eldians can become titans. -They terrorized countries like Marley for 1700 years but then a war started between eldians and other countries. But Marley infiltrated Eldia and captured 7 of the 9 titan powers. After that, the king of eldia of that time didnt want more violence so he took his family and some group of eldians and fled to paradis island taking the power of the founding titan with him. The eldians that didnt escape lost the great titan war (80 years before faye died), but Marley decided to not kill the rest of them, but they were treated horribly. -And then grishas life happened. Things to remember: -The ymir we know was just a normal eldian, she never had royal blood. She was just a homeless kid that was taken by a cult and told her that she was an ascendant of the actual ymir, but she wasnt. Then when she was a preteen, Marley found this cult and all of them were sent to paradis. Up until the end of this episode, ymir was still a pure titan, not a titan shifter. -When the king of eldia fled to paradis and built the 3 walls, he also used his powers to alter the memories of the eldians that followed him convincing them they were the last humans left, except his powers didnt work to certain families (like the ackerman and orientals). -Only the eldians with royal blood can unlock the true power of the founding titan, like frieda, but their will gets overpowered by the will of the first king by keeping peace inside the walls (so they dont start a war again). Also, only a royal eldian with the power of the founding titan can get ALL of the memories of the past shifters. -The day that wall Maria fell, Grisha ate Frieda that had the power of the founding titan, so basically Eren now has the power of the founding titan and the one his dad had. There are some things that have been shown before and be easily explained but i feel like if i do, it can be considered a spoiler and the idea is that you guys make your own theories.
Legoshi
2022-12-22 21:17:42 +0000 UTCNow y’all know who the enemy is! The Marleyans are terrible people who treat eldians like slaves
Tre
2022-12-22 21:15:27 +0000 UTCAs others have pointed out already, there are nine titan shifters. The king who took the founding titan into the walls is one, which now also resides within Eren. Eren had one already that he got from this father, which means Eren has two. These are the two Marley did not control. The other seven; Then you have the armoured (Reiner), the colossal (Bertoldt > Armin), the beast (Zeke), the female (Annie) and then three others, one of which Ymir posessed, you saw in a flash back during S2 she ate one of Reiner, Bertoldt and Annie's comrades, thus taking their power, before that she was a mindless titan and had been wandering around for 60 years. None of this is spoilery, it's information that has already been stated, just hard to keep track of.

2022-12-22 20:41:54 +0000 UTCAlso I saw a very interresting comment once and I am just gonna quote it here: "I've heard that Gross staring at the camera during his speech was a bit of fourth wall-breaking from Isayama, accusing them of watching snk for their fascination of the gruesome things it shows. Personally, I also took it as a wake up call for the next message after he stops staring at the camera. He's not just calling us out on being morbidly fascinated by the titan-eating-human gore, but also our cruel, cathartic, satisfaction when we see what we believe to be a righteous death, and highlighting the vicious cycles of violence behind this satisfaction. Gross, like many non-Eldians, believe that the answer to peace is the destruction of all Eldians, not just due to their ancestors' conquering and war crimes. When Grisha asks if he feels remorse, he says "Of course I don't feel remorse. You're the murderers here. What were you Restorationists planning to do to Marley? Don't you feel any remorse?". Currently, he believes that wiping out these Eldians would protect his own nation. Then Grisha claims that he knows the truth, his own "truth", that founder Ymir was purely benevolent. This theory is born from his hatred of how he and his sister were treated by current Marley. Since we've been following him and his story, and seen the way Yams depicted Gross as, well, gross and despicable, we feel unapologetically enthused when he see him die the way he does. Gross wants Grisha to die so he can prevent Grisha from wiping out Marley. Grisha wants Gross to die for what he did to his sister, and for how Marleyans/other nations treat Eldians in internment. Other nations hate Eldia for how they violently conquered them. Every new generation wants revenge for past sins. Because of this cycle of hatred, we feel euphoric when characters (especially ones as callous as Gross) die for what they've done to the characters we care about. We just think they're getting what they deserve. They all believe they're justified, even if they have to kill others to reach their "peace".

2022-12-22 20:35:28 +0000 UTCJust to clarify some point as this episode is a really heavy on: There is 9 titan shifter as said you already know some of them: armored, colossal, female, eren titan , beast titan, founding titan, ymir's titan and other that you dont know yet.... Yes you are right: Marleyan people cannot become titans so only eldians can which means Reiner and all the warrior are eldians too who lives in Marley just like grisha did

2022-12-22 20:34:53 +0000 UTCDon't hesitate to rewatch this episode over and over again. Coming Season 4, it will be a lot more confusing than now, but all your questions (especially Ron's) will be answered eventually. AoT is a peak fiction, and it's a must-watch story, so we can all learn from it. I'm sure Michelle is going to absolutely lose her mind if she rewatches the show from S1 and notices how insane well the story was written from the beginning. Sooooo many clues and foreshadows were dropped before. Isayama is a 🐐.
Zakwan Khidzir
2022-12-22 20:26:36 +0000 UTCThese episodes were the most jaw dropping moments of the show to me. The fact that we learn that Zeke is Eren's half brother, Dina is the smiling titan, the walls are on an island and the titans are created by Marley and sent to the island. The fact that they're fighting their own race of people and have no clue. Man what a masterpiece of a story.

2022-12-22 19:04:43 +0000 UTCA small detail hint that was given to us about the beast titans background coming from an advanced civilization.. was during the perfect game episode, and the reference to baseball, trying to pitch a “perfect game” Also to clarify w/o spoiling because i see a lot of reactors confused by this at first the 9 titans include: In Marley’s Possession during Grisha’s story: -Beast(to be inherited by Zeke) -Armor(to be inherited by Reiner) -Colossus(to be inherited by Burrito) -Female(to be inherited by Annie) -Ymir’s Titan (name yet to be revealed) -Ron’s MVP Titan(name yet to be revealed) -7th Titan (yet to be revealed) The other two being -Founding Titan(possessed by Uri at this time) -Owl’s Titan(name yet to be revealed) And to Michelle’s point, only Eldians can become Titans because of their genes, this includes becoming a Titan Shifter (having the power of one of the 9 Titans) Side note: S4 ep3 is such an underrated episode, and I hope yall give us that 3 in one episode treatment for the first 3 episodes of season 4 😅
