Haikyuu is my all-time favorite anime. Has been my source of happiness for quite some time. There is something about Haikyuu and its characters that is magical. Whenever I feel down, I watch my favorite parts (aka the epic volleyball matches) or I go back to the very beginning. HAHAHA! I even have written down my fave chapters from the manga so I can easily go back.

Haikyuu is my favorite sports anime ever and actually got me back into playing volleyball. In fact, TONS of people started playing volleyball because of this show, especially in Japan where it was a declining sport. I think that in itself speaks volumes about how people feel about the show and how much influence it had on the viewers! Definitely a good choice!

Hope this comment isnt out of place but if you are looking to add a short anime to your schedule I would highly recommend Violet Evergarden. It is 13 episodes + 2 movie and i guarantee you will enjoy the whole way through.

I definitely agree! I guess it also depends on what people prefer when it comes to sports too? I have a friend who loves playing soccer/football (however you wanna call it haha) and couldn't really get into Blue Lock bc he didn't agree with some of Ego's viewpoints and approach. I, on the other hand, loved the manga bc I loved the thrill it gave (and I don't play sports irl so ig I was able to read it approaching it as a shounen manga than critique it as a sports fanatic). Overall though I did prefer Haikyu bc the realism of the show gave me more inspiration in life and interest in the sport. I guess I just really loved the feeling of having a great sense of pride for each and every character from all the hard work they put in and took the time to learn/grow. The Haikyu characters had more of a long term effect on me haha :))) Although on a side note I do believe Blue Lock would be more up Ron's ally lol

Factsss. Both are good but it just depends on what people want to see. Personally, I enjoyed Haikyuu more cuz I prefer my sports anime to be more on the realistic side where I could just search videos and find similar actions/scenes that were shown in the anime. Compared to Blue Lock or Kuroko no Basket, I definitely feel the hype around it but it gives off a different feeling for me, since you know some scenes or skills being shown are something you won't find in real life. But that's what also makes those animes great! They give you both realism and fantasy (in a way) and it makes the sport more interesting. The reason why I think they should watch Haikyuu as their first sports anime is so that they could go into this genre smoothly as they should expect to see something similar in real life and then they could go into Blue Lock after being a bit more knowledgeable on what goes on in this type of genre. Feel free to disagree, it's just my opinion :))

to each their own when it comes to sub or dub, I think dub more often than not conveys a LOT more comedic value, since the lines hit better for a native speaker. But for drama I do think sub is better most of the time, not including naruto.

I haven't watched Blue Lock, but I know that Haikyuu is top tier when it comes to sports anime. It has great characters, great animation, and most of all, incredible matches, that could get anyone hype. It also does a great job at explaining the rules of volleyball to someone who doesn't know much about it. Overall one of the best sports anime out there. Maybe even the best?

Blue Lock for me is too mid for a sports anime so far. I found my self watching the entirety of Haikyuu 4 times, and each time it would still get me super hyped and invested even though I knew what was going to happen. I think it's among the top 3 in sports anime. Blue Lock for me doesn't have that same effect so far in its first 12 episodes, hopefully will get me more attached to it in part 2 of the first season.

I think that Blue Lock is great, but it is also a show that tries to be different from other sports anime. I think you should watch it after Haikyuu, to better appreciate it the difference. And honestly, Haikyuu is just better, sorry to say. One of the great classics! Blue Lock should still end up on your list, eventually, but there's no rush.

Definitely Haikyuu first! LEGEND! And to be honest, Blue Lock is an anti traditional football anime so I would suggest you watch some other football animes first. My favorite is Ao Ashi. Interesting fact is that Ao Ashi and Blue lock is very different but each publisher (or author, not sure) recommend their readers to read the other story. That says a lot!

Haikyu!! In my opinion Haikyu is one of the best, most realistic sports anime out there that gets praises from professional volleyball athletes (even olympic athletes!) As for Blue Lock and Kuroko no Basket, I enjoyed both of them a lot but they aren't realistic- they feel more like really good shounen anime about sports rather than a good sports anime if you get what I mean??????

So glad that you will be watching Haikyuu! It's a good sports anime to start with. In my opinion, it's the best sports anime as it is realistic. Slam Dunk and Hajime no Ippo is also great but I would say it is a generation era above Haikyuu so you may not be used to the art style. I like Blue Lock and love Kuroko no Basket too but to me they are sports anime with 'powers' that is action packed to summarise.

Either one is good with me. Haven’t read the mangas but based on anime alone Haikyuu shows more teamwork and development towards every character’s individual skills. Blue lock seems more flashy and everyone except the main character seems to have developed skills right off the bat. So maybe Haikyuu because it’s more of a classic and blue lock is modern sports anime.

Blue Lock is only 12 episodes, however imo Haikyuu is the best sport anime. If it’s only one or the other, Haikyuu 100%. But if you are going to do both, but don’t know which to watch first, Blue Lock would go by faster and is recently hyped up and could potentially get more views. If you do go Blue Lock first, I would definitely want Haikyuu after asap. But again, if it’s only one, my vote is for Haikyuu. It’s also a great first for sport anime.

Blue Lock definitely has a lot more hype moments per episode, which seems like something Ron would like, but I feel like Haikyuu does such a good job helping you get to know each character on both sides of the net, which I know they would both enjoy. Haikyuu’s straight hype moments might be fewer and far between (in comparison to Blue Lock at least), but the show is definitely more my personal speed. Blue Lock is a lot of fun, but I don’t really feel myself rooting for anyone aside from the the main character and his main partner in crime. At least not so far, from an anime only perspective, while I can get behind so many characters in Haikyuu

Which is why I'm saying start both simultaneously. If you do 1 episode a week of Blue Lock and 3 a week of Haikyuu they would be fully caught up on both at about the same time based on the number of episodes. Plus if the rumors that season 5 will start in July are true and it'll take 24 weeks to finish both, the timing works out almost perfectly.

This is a tough one. I love both series, but I think Haikyuu would be a better introduction to the sports genre... Sure, it's long, but it's got some really great hype moments and fairly realistic character growth + development. I'm surprised people think it's overrated. It's solid imo... up there with Hajime no Ippo for me. The final movies are also in production, the manga is DONE, so it would be nice if they could catch up to experience the finale with us. Meanwhile, Blue Lock is still ongoing, so there will be plenty to look forward to in the future. Excited to see which one wins! :)

Blue Lock in fantastic but Haikyuu has more content and is just a classic so please watch that first then Blue lock! Cause by the time you’re done with Haikyuu all of season 1 of Blue Lock will be out!! Cant go wrong either way though :))

Although I love blue lock, I feel like since it’s a twist on traditional sports anime it makes sense to watch a traditional sports anime first like Haikyuu. But either way I’m sure it’ll be enjoyable
