he was 6 when Thors was killed in 1002, Canute became king of England in 1018, which I think this episode is either in late 1018 or early 1019, which means Thorfinn is 22

Wheat seeds were sowed in the fall as Einar said. You can also tell the time passing if you look at their clothing. They were wearing only the tunic on top during summer, but they were wearing a shirt underneath it at the end of the episode. This episode was touching, especially Thorfinn's smile at the end. He hadn't smiled since the age of six (except for smirking)
