He needs to get to Shigaraki ASAP before he rewinds to become a baby and disappear from the face of Earth. His plans to take over Shigaraki body would fail if he doesn't get there in time. Time is running if he does takes quirks from everyone one by one. He took Hawks quirk cause he annoyed with Hawks getting in his way and to prevent him from going after him as he makes his way to Shigaraki.

He's always such a scaredy cat but in that moment, he tried to draw the attention of the demon lord away from a friend. 🥺 We do sort of know why no one has come to help in Japan.
