I never got to say this but here you go. As said in the full length vid. I'll post it here because its was one of my fav parts in this arc. Leadership was a theme in this shown through Luffy and Franky. It gave us where Luffy is as a captain both his strengths and weaknesses. During the discussion about the Merry he didnt find the right words to calm Usopp down. He let his emotions explode, making it worse. It was a tough call about the Merry. Its also a captains job to not only lead, but to understand the feelings of their crew members. The arguement and fight didnt show Usopp the reality of the situation. Whereas Franky did cry over the Merry with him and even talked about the Merry as if she was a person. He even got Usopp to see the reality and severity of Merrys state. Franky knew what say and shown a more grounded emotional maturity given history with ships and people.

Luffy wears the straw hat on his head with the string tucked in the hat when he is not wearing the hat on his head, he uses the string to hang around his neck. The rest of the times it looks weird then it's probably the animation production team made a mistake and forgot. Usopp (and Nami) is the most human person among the crew. All his emotions and denial despite knowing and understanding that Merry is done shows how human he is just like when a person finds out someone they love has a serious illness and does not have much days or months left. That person would be in denial and refuse to accept it which is one of the stages of grief. Oda is just the GOAT for making us love Merry, also the GOAT, so much.😭❤️

Once your spine is broken, you're just dead. The same with ships, the very root of it is cracked, so may there be a little wave, it'll brake and the ship has no more 'spine' holding the whole thing and will just moulder to pieces and sink. And man. One Piece is the only thing that would make you cry over a ship...

its by far not my favorite arc but the drama in Water7 really makes me teary eyed every time. Could cry for multiple episodes bc it's so relatable emotional! So many people who have lost someone know how Usopp is feeling for Merry, when you know it’s their time but you still don’t want to let go. It’s such a human experience and Oda did a great job showing the mental battle it can take to come to terms with a loss like that.

When Franky tells Usopp that what he saw on Skypiea was the spirit of the Going Merry, it’s both emotional and a little mind-blowing. I mean, who knew a ship could come back as a ghost? Damn you Oda😭But it hits hard because the Merry wasn’t just a boat, it was their home, their trusty steed that somehow survived being blown up, sunk, and pretty much destroyed every other week hahaha, hearing it couldn’t sail anymore would break me like it did to Usopp. The Merry carried their dreams, the crew, and hearing you have to move on without her can get you all choked up in denial… 😢

This episode really tugged at my heartstrings! Franky is definitely one of the good ones at this point in the story, but it is wild how we end up loving a guy in underpants who stole the crew's money, indirectly caused a fallout between Usopp and the crew, and you have characters like Kaku and Lucci, who seemed perfect for the crew, and now they're just scum of the earth... GOda’s 🐐 twists keep us on our toes always!! looking forward to Thursday's 3-parter hehe!

Up until this episode I thought Usopp was being irrational and melodramatic about not letting the Merry go, but now we finally know that he had not just seen the Merry but heard the Merry. There was even physical evidence to their encounter the next morning. To him the Merry wasn't just another tool to replace, she was another crew member. It also draws a parallel between Usopp and Luffy after they fought and went their separate ways; they're both fighting to save a member of the crew. Luffy is trying to get Robin back just like Usopp is fighting to not abandon the Merry.

Ok. Affter watching this episode I will say with absolute certainty TWO things. One is that this WILL be your favorite anime or at the very least tied for top spot. Secondly, One piece is gonna bring up significant moments of your life as you go along which will hopefully change the way u look at life. I was recently on reddit reading people's life stories how much One Piece saved them from deleting themselves among so many other things like addiction, crime, laziness, drugs, you name it. It will hit your whole entire spectrum of emotions like it did me and thats when you will realize this is not just an anime. Its a way of life :)

So imo this reveal about the Merry fully explains why Usopp went as far as he did with Luffy. Yes it has a lot to do with him projecting his insecurities, that's the generally accepted reason and I still agree with that. But learning that Merry is more than just a ship does a lot to re-contextualize Usopp's recent extreme behavior too. Back on Skypiea, he was the only one on the crew who saw Merry's spirit and over time he slowly began to entertain the idea that Merry was actually alive. Until now this was just a crazy theory that Usopp understandably kept to himself, but with Franky's confirmation he's now a little more justified in the way he reacted after hearing the news. To put it in perspective it would be like hearing Zoro or Chopper caught some terminal illness and had to be left behind to die alone while the crew casually goes to look for replacements. With the knowledge Usopp knew about Merry, it's no wonder he was the only one to get so upset. And it's very in line with his character too as his backstory was all about caring for the terminally ill, from his own late mother to Kaya the rich girl from his village. It makes sense how those habits carried over to the Going Merry now that she's fated to "die" as well.
