Added 2024-10-31 01:08:21 +0000 UTCOK Sushi Squad! We need your help!! We have heard a couple of different ways to watch these movies! Not the spin off shows or anything. We are meaning "the classics"
Please comment reasons why or why not (if you feel necessary to explain lol). Also, is there another option we are missing? Sorry. We legit have no clue lol
Excited for this classic story and world to dive into!!!

Thanks to this I can guess how it went down: Lucas drops the Whole Saga on the Producers and their minds were 100% WTF and wanted to start with the part with the Least Planets.

2024-11-04 20:26:14 +0000 UTCi heard lucas released the 4,5,6 before becaus the technology from that time wasn't good enough to adapt the 1,2,3 as he want. So he started with the 4,5,6 before and the finish with the 1,2,3. that is what i saw in the casettes.

2024-11-03 20:15:01 +0000 UTCApparently these days Lucas is saying he intends it to be watched 123456. But I say he doesn't know what he wants. He already put it out 456123 and the world grew up and fell in love to that. If he had these intentions truly back then, then we would have had to have avoided all things Star Wars from its debut in 77 all the way till 99 when Ep 1 dropped before watching the following 2 movies, more years across, before finally getting to Ep 4 5 6, all the while avoiding spoilers for about a decade. Yeah.

2024-11-02 06:56:37 +0000 UTCI actually recently learned, thanks to some here, that Lucas insists on Chronological order. I deleted my opinionated vote by accident, so in response to those who follow Lucas intentions and so pointed this out to me, I say this is one time I'll have to deny this notion. Because I as fan from the original days had no choice but to watch them in the release order Lucas put out, though I did choose to love it all, and like many this is due to the plots execution that's only possible though Release Order. So I refuse to accept any revised intention he may claim after delivering the work and now has his hands and voice free. If Lucas intended on a certain order, he should have done so from the very beginning, without letting the story ride on a plots complexity that's only possible through the Release Order. Lucas' current intention as he is now is a contradiction of his original expression, and it is here that the new audience will at least choose while knowing this. I vote for Lucas as he originally delivered it. As he was the storyteller dealing with the realities of his own production at that time, he was the most true then. Telling a epic story is often times like Chess: There's a clock and you don't get to take your moves back.

2024-11-02 05:53:54 +0000 UTCI suggest watching it how George Lucas intended it, 456123. Just how they were released.

2024-11-01 16:15:04 +0000 UTC4, 5, 1, 2, 3 then 6 will actually be the best order in my opinion. Some will even go with the Machete Order. Which is 4, 5, 2, 3 and 6 Totally ignoring 1. But as first time watchers for you guys I recommend watching 4, 5, 1, 2, 3 than 6.

2024-10-31 22:11:03 +0000 UTCI mean ig but that WAS the way to go. Basically if your going for true story line you would watch in chronological order which makes the most sense otherwise what’s the point of 4,5, and 6 if you already know what happens and who is who from watching 1,2 and 3 first. Ig it just goes on going with the old ways or if your following with the story. Fine with either but I’d definitely recommend chronological in MY opinion.

2024-10-31 19:34:50 +0000 UTCMachete Order is named that because it actually cuts out Episode 1, but I'd also HIGHLY recommend it as 4, 5, 2, 3, 6 is by FAR my favourite watch order, and is always how I introduce people to Star Wars, but especially because it lets you do "Rogue One" to start with which leads right into everything if you want to make Episode 4 feel refreshed. I feel like Episode 1 is strongest as a jumping off point for all the supplemental stuff like Clone Wars or really anything else, since it's got a bit of a lighter tone and while it has important character context for the bigger picture, (Qui-Gon, Maul, etc.) it's not really much a core part of the narrative for the other five.
Pierce Arner
2024-10-31 19:29:06 +0000 UTCChronological for all the twists and turns imo. However release is cool in a sense of being able to watch 1-3 and learn about the lore of all the cool characters and storylines from 4-6. Id like to think about it as if you would rather watch everything unfold in ‘real’ time vs watching something w cool flashbacks/backstory.

2024-10-31 16:49:46 +0000 UTCMachete order for the win! You watch movies 4-5 (originals) then 1-2-3 (prequels) and then finish the series with movie 6 (original) as the ending has the most anticipation and would make the most sense then!

2024-10-31 14:33:02 +0000 UTCI asked this question to someone else before. It asked myself in wich order i'll show to my father star wars. Because ther is a spoil in both order, so i asked to my friend what to do and he awnsered me that his girl friends wasn't hyped by star wars, so he show her in order (not by releasing) and in fact, she was more immerged into the univers. AND I HIGLY recommand you to watch it inthis order : 1,2,3,4,5,6. Beacause the feeling you'll have will be deeper watching the 4,5,6. Voilà. Thank both 9f you 🤗

2024-10-31 10:04:44 +0000 UTCDepends on your definition of best way. Story wise obviously u want to start at the beginning meaning 1 but personally I think if u start with 1 u won’t have as much interest in the series as a whole as u would if u start with 4 because personally I think the two best ones r 4 and 5.

2024-10-31 08:11:28 +0000 UTCI agree. just follow the creators advice. you will also get the story more if you do it in chronological order. might seem funny with the dip in video / effects quality but that's what happens to huge stories. think of LOTR. watching the hobbit gives you a better understanding to the motives and the world building of the story.

2024-10-31 05:13:09 +0000 UTC@Leo Rover It's just the Machete order except you include episode 1. Just a TLDR it puts the prequels in the middle so that they serve as a flashback narratively and concludes with Luke's journey since this is ultimately what the story is about. If you haven't done it before I'd suggest watching it in this order and excluding episode 1, but that's only if you've already seen all the movies, if you're a first time watcher then including episode 1 doesn't hinder the story too much.

2024-10-31 05:09:56 +0000 UTCIt’s like shippuden. Most people say to watch the Kakashi gaiden episodes first, before the actual first episode of Shippuden

2024-10-31 05:03:43 +0000 UTCI think most actual Star Wars fans have seen them in the order they were released and I think you should experience the journey like most people have. Either way is fine there is no right or wrong but it does help introduce you to the world of Star Wars better starting 4,5 and 6. Just because you're watching the older one first doesn't mean you're not gonna like them any less than if you started with the newer ones I mean I was like 5 or 6 when I watched them and loved them then saw the newer ones as they were releasing in theaters. Either way best of luck to you both lol. ❤
Peter Ceniceros
2024-10-31 04:45:37 +0000 UTCIt’s your watching experience so if you’re really unsure, I’d flip a coin. People will watch it in whatever order they’ll want to regardless and still complain.
Taka
2024-10-31 04:42:23 +0000 UTCEpisode 1 doesn't even have a scene explaining what Jedi are. Because episode 4 has that scene. Because episode 1 was made under the assumption that people had watched episodes 4-6. Release order is the only proper way.

2024-10-31 02:55:46 +0000 UTCIt's actually the opposite. Episode 3 spoils the reveal in 5 and makes the first interactions between Luke and Ben weird and dissonant. I know you'll say it spoils the end of the prequels to watch them in release order, but the bigger more impactful reveal for the truly blind first watch is in Empire.

Mario Prime Plays
2024-10-31 02:26:52 +0000 UTCBoth are good but in my opinion 4-6 is better at introducing the world. 1-3 feel more like a backstory than a beginning of a story. There's a lot of stuff that it assumes you are familiar with from the originals and focuses on going in depth, which would leave you confused about why it's even happening in the first place. There's a couple of big reveals, but i would compare it to the backstory of Kakashi - why he even has a Sharingan is a pretty big mystery for a very long time. Would it be better to know how he got it before the main series, or is it worth watching the main series blind and then, in the backstory, be spoiled that he acquires it?
Marcin
2024-10-31 02:15:39 +0000 UTCSorry but the people who voted “release order” should know that it literally spoils the entire series for the people who haven’t seen it yet and you can’t say it doesn’t. Vote what you want I’m just saying haha.💀

2024-10-31 02:12:01 +0000 UTCI know people have different opinions on this (and I respect whichever way). I first watched the series in chronological order (1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6). (Yes, the decrease in visual quality due to the timing of the films was a bit jarring, but by the time I watched the third movie, I had already been incredibly invested in the universe, so I didn't mind as much when I moved onto 4/5/6 - you may feel differently, and thats ok!). I knew nothing about star wars/any of the lore, just that there were light sabers and people called 'jedi' and 'sith'. I don't want to spoil anything major as this is your first experience, but the emotional impact of seeing how events unfolded in the universe's chronological order was huge for me, and made me a fan - it felt like I was living THROUGH the actual universe that they were building, experiencing the time as it passed and the consequences of actions that had been taken, instead of experiencing events and THEN having a series of flashbacks leading up to where we were at currently (if that makes any sense). I do believe whichever way you choose to view the series will be impactful, and you will have a blast regardless - I just wanted to share my experience and how significant it was in me becoming a fan of the universe. All the best!
Ray
2024-10-31 02:11:22 +0000 UTCI prefer the release order. It just feels right. There are twists no matter what route you take. Can’t wait for you two to enjoy. Hopefully the Sushi Squad will keep it calm in the comments lol

2024-10-31 02:10:31 +0000 UTCIts no brainer. Release order. It got famous with the ones that came out first, not any other way. And that is besides the point of the quality of production (not story, just graphics quality)

2024-10-31 01:23:12 +0000 UTCI don't know if this is a good explanation 💀 but you can look at 4-6 as introduction to the world and characters and the ending of the story while 1-3 is backstory and seeing what happened to get to episode 4. It seems like a weird way to watch them but it just works and definitely more appreciation for the world building and lore and characters. 1-6 is one big story that is connected. And just wondering since you guys watched 7-9. Did you know what was going on or did it seems confusing to yall if you remember? 7-9 is pretty much the black sheep of the trilogies. I liked 7 but the other 2 not so much.

2024-10-31 01:19:13 +0000 UTCIt depends on how yall feel about watching older movies. For some, like my wife, it was hard for her to get into the old ones because of how they were filmed. So we mixed up the order when watching. Started with Rogue One (newer) Then episode IV. Then solo (newer) to get his background story. Then back into V and VI. And that helped her get through the older trilogy and stay super interested. If you go in order of release the old graphics will be done off the bat. If you start chrono. You may feel that after seeing all the new special effects the old ones are lame. Even tho, some of them are the best storys in the series. If youre not into graphics. Watch them in order. If you want the story watch in release. Watching it in release order will make Darth Vaders story more impactful. Which is why I voted Release.

2024-10-31 01:18:46 +0000 UTCIts not you guys, its the movies lol. They skip around and add things, plus the prequels having details that give preface to the originals just adds a level of confusion.
Montanna Roberts
2024-10-31 01:18:41 +0000 UTCDepends on how much of starwars you know. There are things that can be a bit jarring if you go from say episode 3 into episode 4, but a brief explanation resolves any confusion. I think if you are already familiar with the starwars story, big twists and such, then chronologically is fine. However, I will insist on release order if you are completely in the dark about the story.
Garrik9Lives
2024-10-31 01:18:40 +0000 UTCThe 1,2,3 will have more impact after you watch 4,5,6 trust me. Its more coherant story wise to go in chronological order but star wars 4 is the best movie to get you hooked in the universe of star wars. Plus you live out the evolution of the franchise in order that it was written because when the first came out the 5 and 6 weren’t written yet some so some twist might have more punch.

2024-10-31 01:15:33 +0000 UTCTheres really no right or wrong way tbh. But its a tough decision because each one has plot twists that will be spoiled by watching a certain way. I prefer chronological tbh, but release order is fine too! The plot twists in the originals is probably better but ive never actually watched 1-3 unspoiled so idk what the chronological plot twist would be like unspoiled.
