Btw, in part 1 it is stated the gates give you "power greater than a Kage." Then in War Arc it is "greater than the 5 Kage able to go toe toe with 10 tails Jinchuruki approaching SOSP Judara" lol. Major power creep. Part 1 and early to mid shippuden wasn't on this lvl. That's a fact. 8 gates Guy could beat Pain, but it's not a wash and not guaranteed. If Madara wanted to move away he would have, but Guy was just so fast that Madara could only manage to put his defenses up at the last second as we see shown. If Madara put his defense up too early then guy could shift his position and attack him from another side. Madara then was able to read guys movements in his last sekizo attack so he changed to an all out defensive by putting his truth seeker orb defense up. Madara did stand still for Guy's final attack and at the same time went for a defensive stance, but him bending space rendered that useless. This is not a Cell taking Vegeta's final flash scenario.

As a series it did fall off, lots of things don't make sense, and it starts even before that (when the war arc happens). The holes exist, but it only matters if someone is nitpicky, cares about them. But if we count that out, the series is actually more hype than it was before, there's more emotional scenes during the war than in most of the show, animation is peak, and a lot of Lore.

I absolutely loved that they added that short flashback of Kakashi's Father acknowledging that one day, with all the hardwork and training Guy was doing, it'll pay off and he'll be stronger than Kakashi. Kakashi acknowledging that his Father Sakumo was right was extremely bittersweet knowing that Guy, his lifelong rival was going to inevitably die and that he achieved and did what he wanted in his life. Madara himself declaring Guy as the strongest was one of the hypest shit ever and I watched Shippuden WEEKLY, the fillers and repetitive flashbacks were mostly a pain ngl. Not to mention the breaks/holidays with no episodes, the cliffhangers were devastating!

Ok now we are back on track. 8th gate isn't a war arc feat in and of itself. It's what he does with 8th in the war that are the feats. Damaging Judara can't be used to scale against Chibaku bc Guy(along with many others) got a major stat boost in the arc. You can't deny that throughout the show, Guy has gotten more efficient with the gates. His first fight with a Kisame clone and he could barely fight him in 6th gate. Meanwhile in war arc he is helping fight against Tailed beasts. Not to mention he is not nearly as drained as he was vs previous fights. I think a majority of the time Guy wins in 8th gate, but it is not guaranteed. Nor do I think it is a downright stomp. Bc again, he had help to go against Judara, and ge wasn't even taking the fight seriously shown by him laughing and being amused. He just wasn't expecting Guy to go that hard and was taken off guard.

No not really, the translation makes it sound that way. The way it was truly intended to be received as is that "he's the strongest because no one comes close to his level of taijutsu". Regardless, in fact the reincarnated madara with some wood style took a big fat dump on Hashirama who was allready less powerfull than Sage Obito. Sage Obito loses against Guy 8 gate. Proved by Madara being way more powerfull than him and being so close to death after Night Guy. The only thing i didn't really like in the translation again is when Kakashi legit states that the 8th gate gives 10 folds the power of the 5 kages but in reality it scales from the user's power. Only Guy gets that level of power. That's later confirmed but i won't spoil. 8th Gate guy is top 6 power in the show.

These are definitely some goated episodes! I will say imo not the biggest fan of Naruto being a reincarnation of the son of the SoSP. Naruto is in my top 5 favorite manga but this is one of the few criticisms that bother me. One of this story's biggest themes is that an underdog can surpass a genius with enough hard work (lee/neji, guy/kakashi, Naruto/Sasuke, Obito kakashi etc). I feel like Naruto's fight with neji in chunin exams has bit less weight. Neji believed that hard work doesn't matter because we're all slaves to destiny and naruto fought to prove him wrong. I guess neji was right in a way cuz Naruto turned out to be a prophesized reincarnation of a legendary hero lol.
