I don't know I feel like a lot of people are forgetting that without Erwin Eren would have been killed all the way back in season 1. Erwin already deduces that both the Armored and Colossal Titans were like Eren back in episode 13. The following episode his plan prevented Eren from being handed over to the MP's . If Eren was given to MP's they would have been ordered to give him to the Interior Military Police aka Rod's Reiss police. Rod would have gotten a hold of Historia told her all of his lies to convince her to eat Eren and that would have been the end of it. Both characters had personal goals they wanted to see achieved Erwin getting vindication for his father and Armin exploring the outside world. In the end, both were willing to give up on their personal dreams to achieve the only goal that matters to the Scouts freeing humanity from the terror of titans. This was a no-win situation no matter who got turned.

2019-06-03 05:14:56 +0000 UTCI understand your gripes Tasha, but Erwin did a lot for the forwarding of the cause, as well. His strategy for scouting using flares and specific formations created way less casualties and deaths on expeditions. The plan to expose the government as frauds was Erwin's. Erwin sacrificed his life alongside those soldiers after no one saw any sign of victory in that death trap. In this situation, I don't see how the soldiers being pummeled by rocks could have survived. If there was no distraction, Zeke would have noticed Levi coming. Sadly, those soldiers, along with Erwin, had to die. Bert and Reiner were also focused on attacking those soldiers - pummeling them from both sides of the wall. Armin didn't have to worry about Bert or Reiner attacking his comrades inside the wall because they were being ignored in favor of taking out majority of the SC outside the wall. His last ditch effort was also a suicide attempt that didn't need the others because Bert and Reiner were not focused on them, at that point in time. As far as Armin doing more in a shorter period of time, I'll give you that. Armin had a better inside scoop, since he knew Annie, Bert, and Reiner personally. The Shifters didn't come on the scene until 3-4 years before Armin joined the military and still they didn't reappear until Armin was a cadet - so time, luck, and relationship played a key part into why Armin had faster revelations. Remember, the first expedition was Erwin's plan to weed out the Shifter hiding amongst the SC. It was his push of this idea that lead to Armin's revelation of Annie...Lol all this to say, there's no easy choice here. Just make a choice and don't look back. Both are exceptional strategists. One is just a better leader and the other is more hopeful.
