It's not that people are saying he's as strong as Luffy, it's that people see how strong Zoro is and are surprised that there's someone even stronger on the crew. In other words, their assumption is already that the captain is the strongest person for any crew, so knowing Zoro is NOT the captain is almost confusing since he's so strong. It's hard for them to imagine that he's only #2.

What is said, is that if Zoro is THAT strong and is not the captain, imagine the captain. Luffy is the strongest among the Strawhat and will always be, in episode 200 and on episode 1000+. Btw: Zoro is my fav character.

2024-12-20 18:29:20 +0000 UTCJust to clarify, you guys, Luffy's "Gears" aren't just "his ability." Like it's not an innate talent or anything. It's simply Luffy creating a super move using his rubber ability, to do something only he can do because he's a rubber person. So while it's linked to his ability/Devil Fruit power, it's not JUST that e.g. if someone else had eaten the Gum Gum Fruit, they likely wouldn't have these Gears and/or would come up with their own version of a special attack, so to say. Basically, Luffy didn't "discover" this ability, he created it using his understanding of the power and his own imagination :) Hope that made sense, and before anyone says, this is 100% NOT a spoiler since you've already seen one of the Gears.

The anime just has a habit of glazing Zoro by bumping up the animation when he is doing literally anything. Which is fine, I love Zoro.

It’s kinda like Avatar the Last Airbender: you got deep themes, tragic moments, and epic scenes, but the comedic foundation is what the show is built on.

I agree that this fight was seriously goofy (which is actually nice imo) and rough to sit through for some, especially when you're used to epic fights from JJK, Demon Slayer, Naruto etc. The upcoming ones will be much more to your liking for sure. And Chimney low-key the MVP for showing Luffy the way.
