Yeah I don't think sasuke was worried about handling the ninja stock market, it was solely about having enough influence over the world to prevent conflict and spread his message (though we know how many times in history completely unqualified people got to rule a nation and did fine, and sasuke is like a super genius as well who can learn quickly along the way, but I digress). He'd obviously have people under him, a figure in the shadow more then a forefront leader. Yes them just being alive is a deterrent, but it was the same with hashirama, what happened after him? Sasuke has seen it all happen before.. Also his point was to "unite" people against him so they don't really wanna fight each other like that anyway. And with ruling through fear people would have to think twice about even small scale stuff, it's not really the same thing. There are of course points in the story where you aren't suppose to agree with him, to me, that doesn't mean it somehow takes away something from his character. I've seen a lot of people disagree with him, yet still empathize and understand how he got to that point, how his life experiences lead him to his decisions, and it's not "random flip flopping" like some people call it. That's basically my point, people will disregard all context and nuance and just say "edgy little prick" becouse they don't like him being an arrogant dude who's against the main character. If you can appreciate him for what he is but just disagree with some things he does, that's fine, that's normal, but 80% of people just straight hate with no nuance and use those actually disagreeable moments as a springboard, when in actually they didn't like the guy way before that and all of that wasn't even that relevant to them (like most people don't even care about the final plan)..

@Lazardr If he was planning on ruling the world under a system of his own creation, I believe that is childish and unrealistic (keep in mind Naruto had to study for years just to know how to effectively rule one village). If he was planning on just acting as a nuclear deterrent to prevent large scale conflicts, that would be unnecessary, considering you get that same effect by he and/or Naruto being alive regardless of whether he followed through with his plan. It’s a half-baked plan that he decided on earlier that day, so I don’t think there is any PowerPoint to go with it. As far as his writing goes, I’m not a Sasuke hater by any means, but I totally recognize points in the story (like his mass-murderer phase and his half-baked endgame phase) where people can legitimately point to and say, “I’m not a fan of this.” Personally, I think he’s interesting, but I can definitely see the other side of the argument is all I’m trying to say.

Of course he isn't going to sit down do an hour long power point explaining the ins and outs of his operation, controlling through fear is a very feasible thing, he doesn't literally have to be everywhere, and no actual large scale conflicts would be possible, which are the worst offenders. They call him an emo kid to disregard his entire life/character/motivation and just to mock, even though it's true it's used to mock and not identify (obviously). Saying "but it's better now" and hoping things will go well is just very optimistic. He listened to his predecessors and like madara knows it's in peoples nature and true peace like that isn't attainable. And again, his way of going about it perfectly track with his character from the start of the show, he's making a decision based on what he has learned. The "mass murderer" part is a pretty short part of his character arc and he's obviously portrayed basically having a mental breakdown, not to mention his genetic predisposition to strong emotions. That part isn't suppose to define his character on it's own.

It's flawed because he's playing god just like Pain. Instead of a peace achieved through war which he shits on, it's a peace obtained by him eliminating all those he deems are "threats" to this "peace". In the end that's not "peace", it's a temporary end to conflict under his dictatorship for as long as he can stay alive.

To be fair, the status quo wasn't the reason for the Uchiha massacre, Itachi's upbringing and ideology had a lot to do with it. People pretend he had no say in it and just followed orders, but he took a decision, the same way Pain took the decision to destroy the lead under the banner of "bringing peace to the world". Sasuke is partially right, but his idea of bringing "peace" by eliminating all opposing threats is mostly a peace for him and those he chooses to spare.

He just says a few platitudes like “work from the shadows” and “take all the world’s hatred on myself”. People call him an emo kid because he is an emo kid. The difference this time around is that the villages have learned to work together, as well as a new, more progressive generation ready to be handed the reigns. If Sasuke actually wanted to change things in a realistic way, he would use his power and newfound fame to work with people from the inside to change the existing infrastructure. And as a character, he is just okay. There is a big leap in logic that many people just never get over with the initial “I love my brother who loved the village, so instead of just killing those who wronged my brother, I’m going to destroy the entire village that my brother loved…in my brother’s name…yep.”

No I'm not commenting on his plan, I'm commenting on why people dislike him as a character. Of course he's very unlikable on the surface, which is exactly why most people who don't like him, don't becouse of a serous lack of depth to their assessment of him. I didn't say what I did to be rude, I said it through genuinely reading thousands of comments through the past decade and seeing it boil down to just calling him an "annoying emo kid" with no nuance. There's a difference between agreeing with him/liking him as a person and saying he's bad as a character. You can also disagree with his ideas while understanding how he got to them and why they make sense for his character. You, like many others may be misunderstanding what Sasuke is saying. He basically wants to start from scratch, no villages, no kages, no tail beasts. He believes that the current system which was supposed to be the "framework" or the foundation for peace has failed and thus needs to be reset. And when you think about it, the system of villages, may have stopped clan fights, but it lead to bigger fights now among villages. He wants everyone to be under just one system and he will monitor that it continues on the right path. Meanwhile of course Naruto thinks that just restarting everything,ignores any of the lessons that they have learned up to this point. That while the system has not yet lead to peace, it has help shinobi to learn from the mistakes...

@Lazardr It’s cool that you like him—I like him too—but to say those who don’t are low iq is absolutely wild to me. There are very clear reasons why people would not think he’s a good character. If you disagree with those reasons, cool, but to basically say “Nuh uh, you’re stupid and don’t understand” is just a conversation ender. Sasuke’s idea of “fixing” the system by razing it to the ground then rebuilding sounds good, but it’s not that simple. People who reign the countries do wars for entertainment, for money, because they feel like they are cappable of conquering others, or simply from boredom. Theoreticaly we are becoming more civilized, but recently AGAIN the amount of wars in the world is increasing. I’ve watched Naruto and shippuden 4 times, and still don’t agree with Sasuke’s tyrant ideals one bit. I’m sympathetic to his trauma but bro has kakashi and Naruto willing to help him through all his trauma if he just gives them the chance. He should know from the kaguya fight that him and Naruto side by side can rule the world and make sure the future is equipped with good morals and strong hidden leaf ninja. Having faith in the future generation and letting go of control is the strongest character trait possible. Something important to remember about where Sasuke is coming from in this scenario is that they JUST fought an entire war which was the result of the way the previous Kage ran their villages, most namely the Leaf. Naruto literally has no answer to that and just wants to go back to the status quo. Sasuke is a bitch (also maybe SPOILERS later). I don't say that to troll, I genuinely don't like him or his character arc. He's stagnant, Naruto is shedding away his boyhood, and while Naruto remains the same person at heart, he's a man at the end of shippuden. Sasuke right up the the final valley fight not only sees the world the same as he always did even going back to the end of the first serious, he's not matured at all. His attitude after that last fight just didn't make sense either, felt disjointed. Shikamaru has a really good character arc as well, probably the best one in the series.

Ngl after my rewatch on Naruto I can see why Sasuke acted the way he did, in his defense the village higher ups, under the kage system, failed his clan AND Itachi. You can't just expect Sasuke to forgive and forget what the shinobi system and village did to his beloved brother and clan. He acted how most would have in that situation and if you REALLY think about it, it makes sense. not saying his actions are justified but to rebuild a system that has failed many people for so many decades and has caused nothing but war and darkness.. At his core, Sasuke's still trying to emulated his big brother. He's just going forth with what his life has taught him this far, that close relationships are temporary and will eventually lead to bad outcomes. So the solution is to cut his ties > remove the uncertain variables > gain power > use the power for a cause that can justify all the shit that's happened to him (be it for revenge on his brother initially, or for protecting the peace / village framework that he only knows intellectually and not emotionally, solely for carrying on his brother's legacy). So, yes, Sasuke's still stuck in the past. And it's unreasonable to expect him to suddenly have change of heart like Obito or Madara because he hasn't seen the failings of his ways yet. It was only after Obito and Madara was defeated physically and emotionally did they start doubting their ways and reflecting on them. Hope you guys can understand that and feel for what Sasuke's gone through on an emotional level instead of just intellectually saying 'We get it'.
