Honestly, I think the author was just made to throw that in so people don't feel weirded out if Senku were to romance one of the Ishigami descendants. Biologically speaking, the descendants are so far removed that it doesn't really matter even if Senku was actually his biological son, but maybe the editors felt they needed to add another degree of separation. My headcanon now for why they look so alike is that Byakuya died his hair and styled it to look similar to Senku's just cause he wanted to avoid anyone thinking Senku was adopted. People (especially kids) can be mean and he wanted to spare Senku any such interactions with idiots. Of course, we know that Senju wouldn't give a fuck (lol), but Byakuya wouldn't have known that when Senku was just a toddler. This falls apart when you think about the fact that Byakuya would've had to continue dying his hair somehow after they landed back on Earth, but I can ignore that part of my brain lol.

I've seen other translations that say they're not "direct" blood relations so maybe they are related but he's not his dad (he's like an uncle or something that took him in maybe)? Or this might be a case of even weird shared anime traits not meaning characters are related because anime design is like that sometimes.

@Cap That’s certainly possible, but if I were to put money on it, I would bet heavily that the primary reason is to appease potential shippers. The large majority of readers and watchers are going to be children who likely will not look past the fact that the villagers are “related” to Senku. Kohaku’s reaction probably mirrored the reaction of a lot of younger fans. It’s like the author (or more likely the editor) was saying “Here’s the scientific reason why the villagers aren’t related to Senku—them being separated by so much time—and for all the younger fans, they’re DEFINITELY not related because Senku’s adopted anyway.”

I'm not the biggest fan of like musical segments but I like it in Dr Stone. Lilian singing kinda reminds me of Disney lol. This episode was really emotional, RIP to them. Then seeing Senku crying at the end of the episode really got to me. Yeah Michelle this is the first time it's been revealed that Senku and Byakuya aren't blood related

I would think him saying that 4k years apart meaning there's little to no actual relation is to appease shippers. Him being adopted is simply an emotional aspect meant to highlight him and his fathers bond.

@Cap I just can’t think of a reason why they would add the adoption aspect. Seems so random to me. And when Kohaku shuddered that they were related to Senku, he reassured them again that he was adopted. It just struck me as a very bizarre attempt to not weird out the shippers.

I don't think so. Senku says in this episode that even if they were blood relatives that him and the current village would be so distant that he'd hardly even be connected to them

I honestly preferred the dub version of this episode wholefully. Being able to hear the accents and how they each spoke made the conversations feel more real once they got stranded.

Guys, why are you overthinking this? 😂 Senku isn't blood related to Byakuya. In this episode, we learn that he's adopted. It's not a bad translation 😂 And I think, in the end, it doesn't matter whether Senku and Byakuya are related or not. They are and will always be father and son ❤❤

I always just assumed that the Author made Senku & his dad not be blood relatives so that viewers don't call it "incest" when Senku & Kohaku become a thing (this isn't a spoiler since I haven't even finished season 2 btw)

Unless it becomes a plot point later on that I’m not aware of, Senku being randomly adopted despite looking so much like his dad feels like a really weird attempt to avoid incest between Senku and the village…despite the fact that they are hundreds of generations apart…and that the village spawned from six people…

You read that right. Nothing wrong with the translations. Senku is adopted by Byakuya. They are not blood related. That last tombstone was Byakuya's tombstone but it is probably made by the next generation children who wasn't able to make one exactly like the other 3 tombstones.

Oop, audio/visual syncing is off, Editor-in-chief! Right at 13:12. And nope! It's not a mistranslation. Byakuya and Senku are not blood related (I know, they look alike). You didn't forget and it hasn't been mentioned. When it came up in the manga, everyone said what you said....so if THAT happened, it wouldn't be weird to readers/fans, lol. Though Senku did mention that he and the villagers being born 3700+ years apart makes them practically not related.

Time on the ISS does go slower but by very little, like a fraction of a second. For time to be noticeably different than on earth you gotta be VERY far away.
