2025-05-01 20:28:13 +0000 UTC04:28 if u didn't caught that. The lady-in-waiting didn't recognize Maomao without the freckles, but she was scared of her actually. So when Maamao cover her nose area, then she recognized her and freak out

2025-05-01 03:36:26 +0000 UTCPoisoning concubines/consorts had multiple reasons, such as to end pregnancies (so other concubines and their children maintained a certain status)), to create new high consort positions (since high consorts were candidates to become empress), to get your own child into a concubine position (to gain power and status for you family or for the purpose of rising in position as the parent of a concubine), or for a lower or middle rank concubine to potentially rise to a higher rank. Essentially lots of reasons. In the case of the young consort Lishu, who might have been taken in for political reasons, if the emperor for some reason wanted her gone (or got tired of her and didn't need connections with her family or their support/alliance) he might have ordered her poisoned so a new consort spot opened up. There was a lot of backstabbing, manipulation, poisoning, people being set up or evidence planted, assassinations, and murders if you look back at that period of history and the culture of the palace. You'll learn a bit more of the historical context as you watch the show. It's pretty accurate to the time period. If anything the show and the original light novel showed a lighter depiction of how bad it could be while still being fairly realistic. Like the others said, it's implied Lishu got the poisoned dish because her taster swapped the dishes to bully her by making her eat something she didn't like, though she didn't seem to realize how dangerous it could be. Allergies weren't well understood in the time period beyond "so-and-so ate this and couldn't breathe" and the like. But someone poisoned the dish since it had poison, so the question then is who poisoned it. The taster? Someone else? Whoever was behind the wood that turned the flame colors? So curious who you all will suspect in the next few episodes since you said you were watching the episodes dropping next week right after you recorded this one.

She actually is reasonably good looking - she just intentionally makes herself ugly. Now that they are in the know they feel offended for Maomao more than just because shes their team but because the insults feel completely unfounded to them. I mean, they didn't even realize Maomao was standing right there until she covered her face partially.

2025-05-01 02:42:45 +0000 UTCYeah they gotta remember that Lady Gyokouyou's food being poisoned is technically an accident in the sense that it was supposed to be Lady Lishu's food. So Lady Lishu's food was poisoned and it got swapped. They could be related but it could also just be "lucky" happenstance (for Lishu's taster) that Maomao got the poisoned food instead of the other Food Taster.

2025-05-01 02:40:29 +0000 UTCalso yes i think it was like that back in the day. poisoning was a common occurrence throughout the concubines and the emperors. so that’s why food tasters where a thing. but remember some can be fiction lmao jus like the warming explains at the beginnings of the episodes 🫢

2025-05-01 01:19:57 +0000 UTChmm i think it wasn’t about poisoning her it was about making fun of her cuz she was picky with her food. they see her as a spoiled brat who won’t eat what is offer to her not knowing she is allergic (they might even know) so they wanted to like “make fun of” her by giving her food she “don’t” like cause it’s considered rude not eating the food in front of the emperor. also the poison has something to do it might be answered in the later episodes. so technically the food incident has 2 mysteries. one being the picky food eater and the other is the poison incident.

2025-04-30 23:53:18 +0000 UTCYes, Lady Gyokuyou’s ladies-in-waiting are very protective of Maomao. They think she was abused by her family and sold off, remember lol
