When they were discussing the poisoned soup and Maomao disclosed to him that she protected the food taster because - of all of the commoners - a food taster is so "insignificant" that their job is literally to die for someone who is more important. Which is what Maomao's job is, at least on paper. We know she's sort of their detective now... but publically shes just Lady Gyoukyou's taster. Nothing more, nothing less. Kind of gives you a sense of why she was so disrespected when she got sent to another Top-Concubine's Pavillion... in the eyes of those lady's-in-waiting she is *just* a food taster. (And subsequentially how insanely dangerous it was for her to slap the head Lady-in-waiting. Like, Maomao literally could have been *executed* for that behaviour, on the spot)

2025-05-13 22:46:06 +0000 UTCThat conversation between Maomao and Jinshi really makes you wonder if she was deliberately trying to make him aware of the vast difference in their status. Jinshi has clearly shown interest in her, and while Maomao may have noticed it on some level, she keeps brushing it aside. In this moment, though, it feels like she’s drawing a line between them—as if to remind him that the gulf between their worlds is too wide. After all, he holds the power to end her life if he wished; in the rear palace, a commoner's life is all too expendable.

2025-05-13 00:00:02 +0000 UTCYou guys have bamboozled us with the no audio prank so many times, this time I was having audio issues and didnt believe I was until the episode started xD Btw, I know its been some time since you changed, but loving the setup. Some fairy lights or string lights with like sphere bulbs on the background plants (assuming they're fake, if not mad respect) and the play symbols might be nice imo :p
