However, it doesn't really follow history chronologically because some of the historical figures featured in the show were not alive at the same time, as implied. I really can't explain everything here, but just think of it as an alternate universe. The reason the pirates had guns was probably because they either hi-jacked one of the shogunate (Japanese military at the time) ships or over threw a European merchant ship while out on sea. You were right to be suspicious about Mukuro possessing that firearm lol Also a little side-note: You know that Fuu is 15. I read somewhere that Mugen was 19 and Jin was 21. Even if it's not true, it really explains some of their behaviors and views.
