I don't watch anime at all but I did watch Naruto and I love it to death. But for me the sub vs. dub boils down to a simple thing. Japanese have different structure in their grammar, they talk differently as well. Translating that to english it can just sound weird because that's not how we talk. At times it simply sounds cringey. I've also been reading books all my life since I was 5 so I can read the closed captions in a jiffy and don't miss anything visually. But in the end it's all a matter of preference and I hate when the sub and dub communities are fighting in the comments, trying to tell people and reactors how to watch their shows.

I just find it weird that we do that. For instance. How do the Japanese watch Marvel for example. Are they like yes sub. I must hear it in the original language and read it. Or do they watch a dub to understand it easier in their own language. My guess would be the dub.

Sometimes (most of the time) I just want to sit back and relax when watching anime. To me that's dub. So I usually watch on my own in dub then if there are key episodes I want your reaction on, I'll single them out to watch. I know I'm in the minority, to each their own.

Which are the cutscenes from the Naruto Shippuden game, Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution. It's very enjoyable, nothing in it would spoil you for where you currently are in the story and I personally fk with both the sub & dub for it cause I love the akatsuki voices in the dub. but the one I copied is the title for the sub vers. Anyway, please watch it at some point. V IMPORTANT ALSO: There's cutscenes in the same game for "The Two Uchiha" which covers Itachi and Shisui's stories and the events of the Uchiha coup in the village. It's a phenomenal addition to the plot of the story that you can find on youtube as well if you search the quotes up. The level of spoiler in watching it is very low because it generally already covers what has already happened in the anime (the coup).

It is my favourite anime and I fully support you watching the dub if you want to experience it (also the people may riot if you don't watch it in dub 😂😂)

Also Naruto’s voice sounds like that cuz he’s in pain and angry, your voice changes but idk if you guys are aware of that. Also Jiraiya is being serious in that flashback, when he’s a perv he sounds way goofier. Should definitely look at other dub moments to see the difference 🤷🏽♂️

Ron hit the nail on the head about the reading and not being able to intake the visuals the same way or as fast! Train it all you want but it’s an impossibility to match dub! There’s only a few subbed characters I appreciate their emotion but since it’s not my native language it just sounds like yelling and then I have to rely on whichever subbed platform is being used and they’re interpretation of what’s being said.

2024-04-25 03:18:17 +0000 UTCI think the English dub team did an amazing job with Naruto, with that said whenever I hear the English voices I feel like I'm watching a dub, like it's almost there but it's missing something, the original Japanese voices give characters a feel like I'm watching an actual character IRL, hard to explain, and this happens to pretty much every anime I've watched, and I grew up watching them in either English or latino Spanish, the only exception is dbz, I feel like both English and Spanish did a better job with their dub than the original.

Most of the time I'll watch a new show in sub, but I'm not opposed to switching it up sometimes. If I see a lot of dub reactions for a show, I'll check out the dub if I haven't already, and vice versa. But let's keep it a buck, sometimes sub voices can be a bit obnoxious as well, especially when it comes to female characters.

I do want to point put there are a lot of amazing english voice actors, I just wanted to give my two cents on the subject.

JYB as Ichigo is goated. Bleach sub is cool ig but Bleach dub>sub. Now a lot of people hate One Piece dub which I get lol and people hate Luffy dub voice for the most part. OP sub>dub. I do love some of the strawhats dub voices though. So for me I def love Naruto and Bleach dub. For example me I’ve been watching anime since I was a kid probably around 16k episodes. But whenever I hear the English voices it cringes me not all of them ofc. It’s also important to note that not everyone’s first language is English so they will have more open mind towards subbed since they’re not gonna understand the english dub as well anyways. Like me Idk if I’ve explained it well 😆😅

He's still very goofy in the dub, trust me lol. It's just that in that moment with Naruto, he was having a serious conversation with him, so he sounded as such. Jiraiya is still very much pervy and sagey, but he isn't goofy 24/7 in the sub or dub.

As someone who’s watched the series on both sub and dub all the way through, I personally love dub so much. In this instance jiraiya is in a serious tone, but surprisingly he does have the goofiness too him even in dub and the voice matches well with his personality. Yall out to rewatch the series in dub when you finish it in sub, even if you don’t react to it to upload, I personally would love to know what yall think as you go through it again! Then at the end maybe you can do a video on a recap, compare and contrast the differences you’ve noticed not in only voices but some dialogue differences. Kind of like how a few episodes ago there was a translation issue and there was a word in sub you guys didn’t know what it meant as it just didn’t fit. I think it was “tinchu” or something, I probably butchered it but I’m sure you know what I mean. Hopefully someone can correct me. Regardless, love yall!

But then over time it grew on me, and it didn't bother me anymore because that's the voice I associated his character with. I like the sub voice too, but his dub voice is nostalgic for me and a lot of people. The dub always came on cartoon network, and I remember it was on disney xd at some point too. I wish yall could hear some of the other character's dub voices too, specifically Shikamaru, Tobi, Gaara, Lee, Killer Bee, and Madara, especially knowing all the moments to come. Maybe yall could make this a series where you check out different characters dubs.

Glad you guys also heard his voice Kakashi, Sasuke, Gaara, Itachi, Madara, etc so many great voices. Really want y'all to hear Kakashi voice now since Ron mentioned him. Troy Baker (Pain VA) is a legend though, he voices Yamato too in dub lol

The reason i prefer dub is cause I'd rather watch and know whats being said at the same time rather than keep reading the subtitles cause you tend to miss things also the subs can go by too fast and you gotta rewind even as a fast reader. But i do watch and enjoy sub, im just a dub person lol Glad you guys gave this scene a chance in dub. I know a lot of people asked for you guys to watch this but I didn't because I figured yall really wasnt gonna watch it but you did and I appreciate it. Some reactors are so are so disgusted at dub and will disregard it no matter what, it always gets a lot of hate when there are great dubs such as Naruto imo I get Ron not being a fan of Naruto's voice, that's fair. For the most part people prefer his sub voice but i love both is sub and dub voice

If anyone watches DBZ/S in subbed then they are literally psycho. Yall should definitely listen to more dubbed scenes in Shippuden from certain characters after you finish Shippuden. Also Jiraiya does sound goofy in the goofy scenes

My friends? My village?” That line cut deeper than Pain itself! Pain just straight up made Naruto question his ideology haha

Also you have to take into consideration the moment. Narutos voice is spent in this scene. And also Jar is talking more seriously because he wants it to sink in. So take into consideration the context of the scene. He is very goofy in other scenes. Also when you talk about it. I was the same with Deathnote and FoodWars. I couldnt watch it in sub because i felt that I was reading too much and missing what was actually on the screen. Watching in Dub can be beneficial in that way. You miss out on what is actually happening due to reading.

That being said, I think that Naruto has 2 really short scenes which I think are better than Sub. I can't name them though, because you guys aren't there yet.
