Michelle basically got it. Danzo wants to protect Konoha Village as the Hokage, no matter the means. Controlling the Nine-tails is to make sure he can gets it under control in case Naruto loses it and goes crazy with the power. And he can't just kidnap Naruto under the noses of the deceased 3rd Hokage(when he was alive), Kakashi and Jiraiya. People would realise he had gone missing and search for him and if they find out Danzo got him they wouldn't be happy and acknowledge Danzo to ever be the Hokage.

Danzo was not a Hokage, he was a higher up, but all the Hokages since Naruto was a baby, would have opposed Danzo. Third and Tsunade both cared for Naruto, and even though Danzo is evil, he was a patriot, and would never oppose the village and it's will, which is the Hokage. And even if he did that would probabnly lead to a civil war, weakening the leaf to outer threats, that which there are many. He would have to be Hokage, minimum, and the elders would have to be on his side, which the current elders would have been regardless.

Danzo also praised Itachi, like he did in front of sasuke before he got squished. Danzo isn't a saint, no one is, but he's real, can't spell Danzo without GOAT. He probably talks trash too, to keep sasuke emotional, as we know, its not good to fight emotionally, as Ron pointed out, its smart to talk trash, but Sasuke is built different. Not saying you have to like him, but you have to try understand why he did what he did. I think for Danzo not attacking Naruto or Tsunade for example is that he doesnt actively want to destabilize the Leaf. He hates Tsunade but he recognizes her importance. Even when pain attacked he said Tsunade would save some of the villagers. So he is not so power hungry that he would attack someone out the blue to cease power. That's too messy. Danzo is actually no different than any morally ambiguous person in charge of espionage and stuff like that.

I meannn....I feel like danzo was kinda right about some of the things he was saying to Sasuke during this fight. Not as far as getting Itachi to slaughter his clan and what not, but as far as how he's speaking on the convictions and motives of Sasuke and itachi. It's just that Sasuke's not ready to look that in the face. So, he says his hatred is fueled by revenge, as justification, when really, it's fueled by his need to feel strong or in control. Danzo is wrong when he said itachi was a traitor for telling their secret, because it wasn’t itachi that ever said anything to anyone, not even sasuke. It was madara that told em after itachi died because he was there after he murdered the uchiha clan and reached out to itachi for revenge but itachi didn’t actually join him cus he was a threat to the village and just joined the akatsuki to keep an eye on him. I think Tobi admits that to sasuke right after he killed itachi, buttttt point being I don’t think itachi ever actually told anyone cus he cared so much for the village and it’s image

So Danzo *could* have taken naruto and the ninetails from a physically-able-to perspective, but keep in mind the foundation remaining low key, the politics, the third hokage, the village elders, there was all this JUNK in the way. Danzo was slowly lining up his pieces over decades. His plan was to build up his power to control the ninetails completely, so when he took the title of hokage (which he spent decades manufacturing the opportunity), he would have the authority to do as he pleases. With Naruto becoming such a hero of the village, he'd likely have to manufacture a situation where the ninetails would emerge unexepctedly so he could go "oh noooo the ninetails rampaged. No worries I was able to subdue it and sent it to attack our enemies instead" and everyone would be like "OMG DANZO SO GOATED"

I dont think Danzo was talking trash about Itachi at all... Except for the last sentence where he called him a traitor (which we know isn't true, Itachi didn't say shit, Madara did it). For me he was prasing Itachi's doing, saying what he did was what true a shinobi does, acting in shadows in order achive a bigger objective. This has nothing to do with nothing but I just learned that Sasori, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru (as well as the first Hokage & Anko too) are Scorpios and it’s funny how much of a fan of them Ron is. Also Danzo has some of the coolest Wind Style Jutsu. More people should use it.

This is early but episode 284, 285, 288 and 289 are all listed as filler however you should absolutely watch these episodes for a better more full experience of the show. I'll even throw in episode 317 and for that matter. There is a youtuber that makes 2 minute versions of each episode named Bingbong2.0 if you want to do it that way, but regardless I personally believe they're very much necessary as Kishimoto, the author of the story, didn't have time to flush out every battle around this time so the animators created a resolution to these battles so you're not left wondering wtf happened.

This might help a little. Regular Sharingans all have the same ability, which are stated in Naruto series I believe, like copy jutsus and genjutsu, etc more. Only mangekyo sharingans have spacial availabilities. And each Mangekyo Abilities differs from each, some might have similarities but still differs in a way. Like sasuke’s amaterasu and itachis. Itachi had amaterasu on the other eye and tsukuyomi on the other. Sasuke had Amaterasu on the other eye, and ability to control or shape the Amaterasu on the other eye.
