One Piece - 165/166

Comments

these guys are trying to stop him from saving his friends. The earlier guards were stopping him from exploring what he wanted. Bellamy wasn’t doing anything but talking shit bc he gave up on his own dream. People that don’t have a dream to luffy aren’t worth bothering bc he almost pitty them

Gabriel Rodriguez

Ron made the thing up about the shandians saying they didn’t know about devil fruits, in reality they said “paramythia” which means they know a lot about devil fruits

Jaiden Solberg

that was not the reason, Nami did said after that they can fight and they can forget her promise. Luffy was ready to fight but when the whole bar mocked them for believing in the sky island and having dreams, Luffy thought that fight was not worth fighting for.

Nat_off

Chopper version of "nothing happened" 🤣

PumpDaddyD

This!!^^^

Usher

Theyre the best

Regie Khemvisay

Its been good and just gets better

Regie Khemvisay

yep... he cleary misunderstood it

Alex Vrajitoru

If you watch the bellamy ep again, luffy is about to throw hands with bellamy, but when nami asks the bartender about the sky lands, they laugh and they say what stupid people with dreams, luffy softens his hand and doesn’t fight a non dreamer who good for nothing, hes not standing on his way. Its kinda a pity feeling when you really think about it

Ferdaws Ahmadi

I think you misunderstood why he didn’t fight Bellamy in the bar

Geno Montez

"You can pour drinks on me. You can throw food at me. You can even spit on me. I'll just laugh that stuff off. But...for good reason or not... nobody hurts a friend of mine!" - Shanks

Alexander Saldivar

Yeah what Bellamy said about the Era of Dreams being over, is what triggered the response.

Robert

they refused to fight because Bellamy was pathetic and said the Era of dreams is over. Luffy wouldn't back down on a fight just because Nami said keep a cool head. Luffy didn't want to acknowledge Bellamy by fighting him, because he wasn't worth it.

Robert

and Bellamy's outlook on life was pathetic, Wyper is fighting for his dream to take back his home land. Luffy has fought weak people before out of respect. I think he refused Bellamy because of what he said about the Era of Dreams being over.

Robert

Lol that's literally it. They avoided fighting in order to acheive their goal of getting information about the sky island. Fighting a non-threat like Bellamy was not worth jeopardizing that & breaking their promise to Nami. I'm surprised more people don't get it.

Adrian Dawson

Ur compering someone who almost killed the straw hats to some who attacked luffy and zoro lol and yeh the reason luffy didn’t attack was cuss it was the battle of dreams

Coolfun1234e

The campfire party was so funny 😂😂

ali

why people are debating about bellamy's scene? it was clear that Nami said don't fight, when they came to the town. that's why both Luffy and Zoro didn't fight.

mamimumemo

And I agree with all of that, except that it's not explicitly said, if ever throughout the 1000+ episode. So I'm being vague on purpose and only using as of yet seen moments from the anime to explain a potential interpretation. Outside of that, I think it's fairly reasonable for someone to be confused if they didn't connect all the dots yet. Which by extension is a valid question and criticism to have at this point in time. Besides, even if he understands the "writing". Ron can still disagree with the direction of the writing. You can understand something while also disagreeing with it. All I was telling him is that there might be an "easier pill to swallow" by interpreting the scene as Luffy being goofy. Just so he doesn't feel bothered by the scene too much. Who knows, maybe with more episodes in, he will understand and agree.

Kee

Casual baby announcement was not on my June bingo card, but here we are

Joshua Bonifaz

Robins humor is so good to me lol she’s always like this 😅

Aaron williams

Luffy knew Bellamy was weak, He knows Wyper is strong. that's the difference.

Brian

a suggestion to you guys, react to the song "oretachi wa family" sung by the StrawHats, you'll be quite surprized. but not to spoil yourselves, react to the 6 pirates version. you can either watch this one (a version without robin): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZA0QF4jWUAs&ab_channel=JiaShuan or to this one, when all 6 of them sing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjPRFOFLc6I&ab_channel=akatsukilover104 but starting 2:05, i recommend not watching the video, only listening, beuace in the video there are spoilers. I don't recommend searching for another video on your own, you'll see yourself finding out some unnecessary spoilers. just a note: the second link is better to watch oh and one more thing: it's really great seeing Robin getting attached to the crew, feeling happy all the time when she's around them and just being herself ^^

Liana P

yes this song will come way later again, but it is such a warm feeling listening to their song, sang by all of them

Liana P

and the happy song about the straw hats!!!! "Oretachi wa family" (we are family) sang by the Mugiwaras, oh man that moment is so dear

Liana P

your theory at the end is like half correct! but Enel is not that old, at least not 400 years haha that's the only thing you'll get. you were getting closer tho with the theories :)

Liana P

Yo that episode is coming up just realized

Shaide

you guys should react to 3 eps/day and maybe you can react to the opening at some time! 1 last thing : the movie is something that you should not miss!

hồ thanh thái

ahh well explained thank you!

Michelle Lam

yeah Ron even tho Luffy looks like a simpleton, he really is not. you just don't understand him fully yet. it wasn't about what bellamy did or not (because he was ready to kick his ass at first) it was what he believed in (which made luffy realize that he wasn't even worth his punches back then). i think maybe by episode 600 (that's the latest it can take) you will more or less understand his actions, but you're a smart guy, so i believe it'll happen before that

Liana P

This arc always reminds me of the adventure movies of the 80’, like Indiana Jones and the Goonies. Looking forward to seeing it in the Live Action. Finally our crew will do some basic pirate stuff for once, like gold hunting :-)

BashaM

Honestly I’d like to think that Bellamy wasn’t worth fighting back due to him not having a dream or basically nothing just a shit head who was just talking shit and luffy decided to be the bigger person but this dude tried to kill him twice already so I’d say there isn’t much of a comparison but even one have their own opinions and respect them

Shaide

After Skypia arc OnePiece gets really good and the animation takes a leap

Mahti

Also Ron was talking about the Bountys is kind of the "purpose" of the show, I wouldnt really say that, they are just some NUmbers to tell around what level they are. But they arent that significant in the great sheme of things, its still always cool when we get new bountys of course

Vincent Baierl

Dont know if anyone said it already but I think its a pretty cute that chopper doesnt answer to nami because hes scared and as soon as he hears Zoro shouting for him he instantly comes out because he knows hes safe with zoro

Vincent Baierl

bro let them finish these first.

Byakuran

Why havent u watch kaiju no.8? 😭

Shawn Jacey Gonzales

This moments in the bonfire are so special to me man after watching the whole show is just those moments you always remember specially knowing everything that happens after.

Enzo Torales

The wolves talk like gangsters, just imagine they're from the Yakuza series lol. Oda has stated in the past that his favorite panel to draw in the manga was the campfire scene where the strawhats dance with the wolves. Dances with Wolves. Hmm... 🤔

hurryupmode

Why would you give out spoilers like that? Smh 🤦‍♀️let them explore the world and come up with theories without giving them big hints

NightingGale 496

Nah Michelle is right on this one wyper legit tried to kill them twice lol

Tre

Probably important to remember that Luffy was originally going to fight Bellamy right away, but the second Bellamy called dreams stupid, Luffy lowered his fist. There's literally a close up on Luffy's fist opening into a relaxed position just after Bellamy talks his shit Bellamy and Wyper have nothing in common

SomeoneElse

No matter how many times I see it, I always find it so cute that Chopper only shows himself when Zoro calls him and completely ignored Nami. He only felt really safe when he heard that Zoro was there too. So damn cute! 🥰🥰🥰 And I'm always impressed by how good the foreshadowing is in these episodes! Oda is really a master in foreshadowing and world building! Just get on your knees because Oda Sensei is cooking all the time!

RorotheShadow

It's not that complicated. Bellamy was not standing in Luffy's way. He was just some dickbag standing on the sidelines of the great pirate era talking shit. He had no dream or ambition worth a damn. Luffy didn't even acknowledge Bellamy and left without a word, hence why Blackbeard said Luffy won the fight. He wasn't worth fighting. To fight Bellamy in that moment would have been akin to admitting that Bellamy was worth their time, which he was not. Luffy and Zoro could have mopped the floor with them if they wanted to. Wyper and Bellamy have nothing in common. Luffy knows nothing about Wyper and Wyper attacked him and his friends. Luffy knew everything about Bellamy from the moment he called dreams stupid. Luffy was literally about to fight Bellamy but the moment Bellamy called dreams stupid, Luffy lowered his fists. Shanks and Luffy both know that knowing when to not fight is part of what makes a great pirate, so the scene calls back to the Luffy and Shanks moment. There is no criticism to be made here, only a lack of understanding of the writing.

SomeoneElse

This isn't Oda's favourite arc, that is unknown, but the campfire scene with the wolves is among his top 3 favourite moments he's drawn 👍

SomeoneElse

Parties in one piece are DIFFERENT

Usher

I didn't remember this song played during these episodes. Whenever the straw hats sing together, it makes me kinda emotional😭

Usher

I think the most common and accepted reason why he didn't fight against Bellamy was because he wasn't in Luffy's way. I'm fairly confident that all the fights he got into was to protect his friends, which he needs to find the One Piece or people actively trying to stop him from reaching his goal. In this case, the Warrior is literally asking Luffy to LEAVE Sky Island. In contrast, Bellamy was just making fun of him for wanting to go. But I understand your confusion Ron and I think it's a valid question/criticism. If it makes feel better, it might be easier to think of that scene as Luffy just being goofy and seeing an opportunity to imitate his idol Shanks. or the similar situation reminding him of Shanks lesson.

Kee

Bellamy was mocking them for their dream

Lovelace973

Luffys views anyone who directly challenges him as an enemy at least worthy of respect for putting their life on the line, so he meets that challenge and claps back; with Bellamy, he doesn't believe in dreams so Luffy views him more like a civilian not worth engaging

Jonathan

im pretty sure luffy's bar scene with bellamy is supposed to be like a repeat of shanks' bar scene where he doesnt care that someone wants to make a fool out of him and then they messed with his friend so he pulled up on him just like the shanks scene

Christopher Ansardi

The Bellamy luffy scene should get cleared up a bit at some point much later

luck64

So heartwarming and fun to always watch the Straw Hats party! And the campfire scene with the wolves and the dancing is one of Odas favorite panels he has drawn. Such a fun moment that was kinda out no where with the wolves. And love the theories/discussions at the end.

Whoopsie

it’s only once luffy realized bellamy didn’t believe in sky island to begin with and had no real dreams as a pirate was when luffy realized the fight would be pointless

jaycee2003 chavez

nah its different situations/context between Bellmamy and this dude

Goon

If you look back on the bar scene with Shanks in the flashback, where Shanks taught Luffy that there are fights not worth fighting then you’ll have a better understanding on why Luffy didn’t fight against Bellamy in the bar. He saw it as a worthless battle against a worthless person that had no dreams and ambitions

Karaka

The whole Bellamy and Luffy bar scene really just boils down to people's dreams. The best way I can explain it would be to consider your own dreams in life a lot of times you'll find people who don't believe in that same dream and think its impossible. Would you waste your time fighting and trying to convince them otherwise? No, at the end of the day they're not worth your time. they don't share the same perspective and belief so they can't see things the way you do. You could make an argument that Luffy always stands up for his friends (outside of his crew as well) so why did he allow zoro to get beat up? but I think Luffy just knew Bellamy and his crew didnt pose a real threat to them besides a couple of bruises (and he trusts zoro's strength). I think had they attacked Nami or chopper maybe the situation would of been different. And we kinda see that when Bellamy attacked Old Chestnut Head (Montblanc cricket) and robbed his gold. Like you wouldn't beat up every single person that doesn't believe in your dreams but you'd act if someone you care for was hurt.

Seb

He will never let his crew take on a stronger opponent than him. he will always go for the head of the snake

The CulturedGentleman

Lets be real...they WONT remember. not on first watch. Its a long ways to go

The CulturedGentleman

its not the promise. Bellamy was already defeated in life to Luffy by not even having a dream to go after.

The CulturedGentleman

Hes a genius

The CulturedGentleman

Bro the foreshadowing is ABSOLUTELY crazy! You cannot convince me Oda isnt a living genius! Also Ron i really love your theories. Right or wrong, they do make sense and i love your insight into things. From this point on, until idk how long, One Piece is gonna get really interesting and really active. Buckle up, its gonna be quite the adventure :)

The CulturedGentleman

Oda really is the goat.

Espar

Its Oda favorite arc for some reason. A lot of lore, intel and informations about the past and potencially the future of the world. Even 1000 episodes after, this is still not a spoiler but : Think about the world of one piece, its a lot of water and small pieces of land for example, almost like the world was swallowed by the sea, i think this arc make us think a lot about that

Rui Duarte

I watched ahead on crunchy roll cause I couldn't wait & this arc is insane lol. Cant wait for you guys to see it

zackary PH

Bellamy was just a loser who mocked his dream while this guy tried to kill them twice without any reason

Pleasure Me

Ron, you still not getting oda on what it was about with bar. To luffy, a man with no dreams and convictions is so worthless that he wouldn't even beat them up to prove a point. Cus there no meaning in proving your point or your strength to these guys. Even zoro didn't question it and that's saying something. You will see that luffy, in the whole show, will not bother with insignificant people. That's stat. You will also see that he always knows who he needs beat up. And belemy just wasn't that guys untill he messed with luffys friend and hid dreams.

Espar

Dam wish i can put the "how many time we got teach you this lesson, old man" SpongeBob meme lol. Jk luv yall, luv wensday

KBomb

the bar scene with bellamy is supposed to reflect shanks and what he did when luffy was a kid with the bandits. bellamy wasn’t a real threat he just mocked luffy

King G

Was going to come here and say the same about Luffy not fighting bellamy but allot of my peeps here got it! and also remember that campfire 🔥

Kokyloco7

Luffy doesnt care about beating up someone weaker them him, because the other person dont believe on what luffy believes, luffy is very simple and naive he didnt think about yea im bigger then this jerk bellamy, he felt that situation was equal to the one shanks had in the bar back in ep 1 or 2 of one piece. Now this guy is diferent, he was putting in danger what luffy treasures the most: His freedom\dream and his crew. Is not even dying, because you will see a lot of times that luffy doesnt fear death, never, if he dies doing what he loves the most, protecting is friends and adveturing he doesnt care about dying.

Rui Duarte

i think people are wrong to say the bellamy bar scene was a small thing so thats why he didnt fight. i believe its the opposite. Like you said. Luffy will fight anyone for the smallest things. that bar scene was different though. it was a hater laughing at luffy's principles and ideals. had he(luffy) gone crazy and beat them up then and there, it wouldn't have proven him right. he knew the bellamy pirates werent gonna kill them there. let the haters laugh and be disrespectful. prove them wrong.

SurKhan

Try to retain the info of sky island even if you don’t is fine when it comes back 100+ ep oda will remind you of the info

Juan Contreras

REMEMBER IT

jeremychavez

FYI episode 166, the bonfire and straw hats dancing with the wolves is Oda's (the author) top 3 favorite scenes he drew in the manga

Aman Gupta

Nami said it was alright for them to fight at that moment, and Luffy was still going to fight Bellamy anyway, it wasn't until Bellamy talked about no dreams that Luffy chose not to fight.

Red Division

A small fun fact: Enel is the name of the "God," but the way he pronounces it is Eneru. Similarly, the name of the main character is Luffy, but it is pronounced Ruffy because of the pronunciation of the letter L in Japanese. Have a great night, I love you all :)

Hector Tavares

Jay .

The problem with having a main character like Luffy that is supposed to be inherently goofy and somewhat immature is that its hard to show moments of maturity and character development without making it look like hes acting out of character. You guys will see no matter how serious and grown up luffy may act one moment, once the moment has passed he is back to his old, joking, not-taking-anything-serious self

Surya

aside from Bellamy is not a dreamer and fighting him will break his promise to Nami to not fight, why are you questioning LUFFY'S LOGIC/INTELLIGENCE? LOL

Januar Ramli

do you guys remember in the live action Nami reading "Nolan the Liar" to zoro while he was comatose after fighting mihawk?

jeremychavez

On the Luffy thing, i take it as long as your not restricting or ordering Luffy around, he won't mess with you. The guerilla guy is specifically telling Luffy to leave the island or else he'll be a target, but Luffy wants to explore the island and will fight if necessary. And as someone pointed out, Luffy was going to fight Bellamy, until he gave his speech about no dreams and thats when Luffy decided not to fight.

Red Division

Bellamy was a jerk and a bully but in that moment they only had differing opinions. Luffy believes in romantic fantasy while Bellamy is more cynical and pragmatic. Sure Luffy and Zoro let themselves get a little hurt, but it was nothing life threatening. Contrast to this guy here who actively tried to kill the whole crew and orders them to leave the island immediately, that's restricting Luffy's freedom which pisses him off the most. In the end it's all about getting in the way of what Luffy wants, that's when Luffy gets fired up to fight.

100Rainy

in episode 146, 17:45 onwards, you will notice that Luffy said to bellamy with intention to fight "so are you ready to take me on? huh" and had assumed a fighting stance with his fists against bellmay before nami interrupted him to ask bout the sky island when bellamy started laughing and mocking dreaming pirates and then luffy unclenched his fist later and reacted the way he did, subtle but he did intend to mike tyson the mofo then and there before realizing the clown ain't even a real pirate (a wannabe with no actual dream) and went gandhi mode

Aman Gupta

The reason why luffy didn’t fight in the bar is that nami told him you will lose the chance to go to the sky island if you get into a fight because the log pose will charge for the next direction in less than three days and luffy is jus big on dreams and promises , and as much as it matters to him to go to sky island it matters to nami and he doesn’t want to mess up he’s friends dream

Simu

luffy did a promise to nami in the bar and promise are one of the most important things for luffy

Duodes

Bellamy didn't have a dream and the others also laughed and were non dreamers - Every other instance weren't anything like that - they all had goals they actually wanted to achieve

ShaquanVirse

i thought luffy acted the way he did at the bar because nami told them to not cause unecessary drama before hand

marty s

WOOHOO!!! Was waiting for this one!
