this was a deep vlog. for a bunch of reasons. hope you enjoy :)
japan is famously insular, culturally and racially, so there can be a lot of unexpected intolerance and friction. but its changing pretty fast with the tourism their more modern cultural exports have brought to the country.

Btw Ron fun fact - One of the things that drew me to your channel besides the anime ofc :) is that we cut our hair in exactly the same style! I dont part mine but everything else is the same. My facial structure is very similar to yours but different facial features lol

I will also say I think wayyyyy too many foreigners who have come here and left go way too hard on the country just because they personally have had bad experiences. I love Japan, I love my job, and I love my friends here. It's a wonderful country and the countryside is great to live in. However, without knowing Japanese I know the experience would be completely different so that has to be something you commit to. You will have a better experience and like it so much more. That being said, you could also live anywhere else and have a great experience like me in Japan. It's not the country, it's the relationships you make that matter.

As someone who has also lived in Japan for years as a foreigner, I agree with some points but definitely not all of them. I can speak Japanese, but people I know who can't have a much more difficult time and find day-to-day life difficult, but that goes for any country you don't speak the language. Yes, taxes are a bit high (population getting older not enough young people so taxes have to compensate to take care of them). Living cost HUGELY varies. I live in a small city and living is extremely cheap here (rent is like $300 for a 3 room apartment lmao). Most of the situations with residence card stuff/being unfair in a legal way is valid, though I've personally never had that happen to me. A lot of this stuff tends to be in Tokyo, Osaka, etc. where there is a big population of foreigners. I've only been treated kindly in the countryside and the police have always been very helpful to me. Unfortunately in big cities the police will definitely treat you worse. For example if you walk across the street when the light is red and Japanese people do too, they will only stop you. (I've seen things like that many times). That being said, I love Japan, but it's not great to live in long term despite how many things I like about living here.

extreme racism, all the taxes increase and take almost half of the income and some of the money supposed to used for retirement but there's no way foreigners can get it, basically if you cant speak japanese then its hard to survive with all the taxes stuff that increase every year, yen sucks, the living cost is extreme high, even if you have permanent residence they can take away the status and deport you if you forgot to pay taxes, racial profiling by polices (yes it happens ALOT), if you dont have your resident card with you(like you lost it or forget to bring it every day) they can just violate your privacy by checking inside your house without any warrant and put you in jail.
and its hard to get housing for foreigners, they won't let foreigners to rent easily even if you speak japanese and grew up there.

Both very fun to visit, but very expensive and stressful to live in. People often confuse visiting with actually living there and find themselves eventually loathing a place they once loved to visit. Just be careful when relocating, you do it for the right reason.

Hate to break it to you Ron but dog years is like 7 times human years. So when Zola is 10 then Teddy will be a senior citizen dog around 70 years old with not much time left to live.

Switzerland is legitimately one of the most expensive countries to live in lol. It’s a great place to vacation to, but I wouldn’t recommend living there.
I think having a feeling of escapism isn’t inherently wrong but a person might feel trapped after a while even if they move to somewhere else
