noland and calgara story was fire and very sad

Immortal Art

He also has Dragons voice

Dandy Zoran

I mean if you think about it we also defend things we have no clue about like pyramids and artifacts and what not. As to why sacrifice things, thats what they believed in at that time, in our time we believe in different things like religions and fate and what not. They were just taking it to the extreme lol As for noland not knowing the story of the trees before hand, its true it would have been useful information to have but he pulled up to their home, im not gonna pull up to someones home and start ripping flowers out of their backyard or raiding their fridge lol And finally, Michelle is an op. Im not bowing to a false god, strawhats all the way! lmao

Overbyte

oda is so good at giving quick backstories that leaves a big impact on you. Awesome backstory.

ep306 is the 1st time you get to know about their existence

klairvoyage

jaya (shandora) was always on the ground it didn’t originate in the sky

King G

It won’t be explained in the anime for some reason but when Calgara says fell he means in a battle sense not a literal sense. They didn’t literally fall.

ant g

@Jack I think it's not a even a theory, didn't the big South Birds told this to Chopper when they rescued him or something ? Either way I think it's known fact but I might not remember when it's told haha

Rob

I hope they read this comment !

Rob

I swear only Oda can make characters with the most insane and weird designs and yet badass and deep

Usher

I will argue that slightly. The brother loving sister troupe isn't better. I call it a tie

No Remorse

Every Anime Love Story is better than Twilight

ShaquanVirse

Lol female fishmen - Look up cover story #3 if you wanna see her

ShaquanVirse

A mermaid👀

Usher

Cover series - The Shandians, Skypieans, and Birkans (where eneru was from) originally lived on the moon. When they started to run out of natural resources they departed to this planet. Two of the groups settling in the clouds, and the other on the blue sea meaning the shandians. This is why only these tribes have the same wings. Knowing this makes the story even sadder , cause this has been a 400 year war between 2 of the only remaining tribes of the same species. Both not knowing they where the last of their race.

ShaquanVirse

because it's the best part

Mahti

Soo cool to recap all this, didnt even remember half of all this, this arc is really amazing. But the adventure will be long, will be soo cool to see your reaction for all the crazy things One Piece has for you :D

Better love story than Twilight

I am saying it now: One Piece has the best backstories. Hands down. At the end of the backstory, all I can think about is that I want for someone to find and ring the golden bell so badly now, so Calgara and Noland’s spirits can find their way back to Shandora and meet again, as promised.

BashaM

Wow i completly forgot that noland had a scar on his chest! 😲

Kokyloco7

One of the most beautiful and important fleshback of one piece. The wings are not confirmed but they could just be ornamental. There are elements that make you think so but I can't illustrate them because it would be a spoiler

Antonio Pugliese

Also I would like to point out that no human sacrifice is ok in my eyes, a goat however is ok as long as they eat it afterwards

Chayanne Acosta

I’m not up to date with wano so if they explain it there that’s why I don’t know.

TheRealN

It’s always a woman because women have been valued more throughout time. That’s why when it comes to war it’s the men who go and fight to protect the women and nation. That’s why even today if a draft were to happen it would be the men who go off and fight, because women are valued higher than men. The hate men get these days is crazy.

Chayanne Acosta

I somewhat agree in some anime, but some of the episode titles in one piece can legit ruin the whole episode, or spoil the conclusion of a whole arc

Usher

I came in for one piece and stayed for a philosophical lesson👌🏻

Usher

Fr idk what else Enel should've thought when he saw the altair

Usher

Long ring long island was really funny. One piece isn't always about progressing the plot, sometimes you gotta take the time seeing new concepts/world building/etc. And also this arc eas funny as shit🤣

Usher

"I hope there's ghosts..." Bookmarking for future reference.

David Barron

Cover Story #3 I'll never forgive the anime for not adapting these Do you guys remember the Octopus from Aarlongs crew? This cover story follows him escaping from the marines and going back to the ocean - He rescues a Mermaid and they open up a Takoyaki stand

ShaquanVirse

Damnn I never thought about that! Might actually be true. I still think that Oda tried to convey how strong Noland and Kalgara are, one shotting the same kind of snakes

Usher

Is it possible explain without giving out spoilers?

Usher

If it's the wings then it's not a Plot hole - That was explained later in cover story

ShaquanVirse

Wym?

ShaquanVirse

to awnser the wings question : this was only covered in the manga as an extra cover story : The three groups. The Shandians, Skypieans, and Birkans (where eneru was from) originally lived on the moon.

Kevin Depoppe

I wonder if they can use one pace for long ring long land

Crimel Dokja

There is a theory that it’s stronger because it grew up in the sky. Like the extra large sea fish. As well as why ordinary people have difficulties breathing in the sky. It is a tuffer atmosphere to live making the people stronger.

Jack Rabe

I just realized this whole episode was a plothole

TheRealN

Now I can see why one piece was so boring back in the day

Loiu99

I love this flashback too! But you guys have honestly not even hit close to the highest peaks of the show yet. Cannot wait until you get there. Enjoy the Journey, its such a good story fr 🥳♥️

Gjermund Norum Bugge

Just to add, the Shandians still have wings whats more typical for sky-people. So their theory that the shandians already were in the sky before it "fell" might be not that far off. We're talking about an event 800years ago...

tris273

One Piece right now has 1100+Episodes. Naruto(without fillers) comes to 500eps. We got some triplers in naruto too but most of the time its not necessary. Most episodes dont use cliffhangers like many one piece episodes.

tris273

Damn i cried so hard😭😭rewatching this made me fall in love with one piece even more. This Bromance fs is some Ghibli-Movie stuff. Insane and ridiculous that "Noland the Liar" is a fairy tale children get to hear to stop lying. Absolutely insane thinking about what frkn badass Noland was.

tris273

the most important thing always gets forgotten in the mix…. THE PONEGLYPHS

panashe garise

man its gone get so much better

panashe garise

When I first watched it as a kid, I didn't really care and just wanted to return to Luffy, but as I got older I've grown to appricate it more and more.

Usher

I just love Calgara and Noland's backstory and their bromance. It's just sad how it all ended. When Calgara said Shandora fell I don't think he meant it literally but that they lost to invaders at the time. the explanation as to why the Shandians have wings can be found in the cover story in the manga which you guys can check out after you finish the arc

Christina H.

I also forgot his name, until he came to bounty rush(mobile game)😂

Usher

This topic is even more interesting when you think about a certain man from the previous arc (if you're caught up)👀

Usher

The first Snake that Noland easily killed shouldn't be weaker than its grandchild, which everyone(except Eneru) could barely do anything to. Noland and Kalgara were just those guys

Usher

In the afterlife maybe🥹 Also, that name is wild for more reasons than one LMAO

Usher

Glad I'm a fan of both LOL

Usher

Buckle up guys! Almost time for the most entertaining filler in anime.. If they choose to watch it😬

Usher

Man, the sounds of the bell gives me goosebumps just like the drums... if ykyk... 🔥🔥 And yes, the ceremonies still exist, but they are performed by Eneru and his priests, and not by the Shandians. And since Eneru sacrifices anyone who doesn't obey him or doesn't accept him as a god, it's certain that he didn't take over this ritual from the Shandians, but simply came up with the idea himself. I mean, the reasons for the sacrifices are completely different too

Usher

Somehow we got almost exactly the same ending from 3 episodes ago🤣

Usher

The Long Ring Long Land arc is canon not filler, so they should definitely watch it! And I really don't understand why so many people hate this arc! Okay, the story doesn't develop any further in it, but you still see more of Oda Sensei's amazing worldbuilding and this arc is super funny, so why should you skip it?!

RorotheShadow

After rewatching I found the arc Long Lind Long Land actually really funny

ODA'S A GENIUS

Usher

Hands down for sure. It definitely became my number 1 anime and this is coming from someone who watched Naruto, Demon Slayer, Black Clover, Fairy Tail, etc.

Jin

I love the backstory of Calgara and Noland bromance. Lol and you guys totally forgot about the story of Nolan that was written in the North Sea book. The story did say that Nolan was executed for being a liar after he said he found gold and the king went with him back to the island to find no gold. The Shandians did give all their gold to Nolan and the crew for saving their tribes life. So the gold was already theirs but because of the incident about the ancestral trees, Nolan decided to not take the gold and returned and left it on the island before they left. Gold was not an issue for the Shandians. It was the Ponyglyph they were protecting and also the Golden bell which was a bell that calls to their ancestors. The reason why the Shandians have wings even before they were shot up to Skypiea from the Blue Sea will be explained but not in depth.

Phyllis

Oda must have had a reason for creating the Long Ring Long Land arc, so I think it's worth watching, but I agree that it is the least interesting arc.

A

Yeah this is a top backstory for me. This makes the Skypeia arc special and its crazy how 3 episodes can make you go to loving characters you just met. Its a tragic yet beautiful story and just being branded a liar is insane and how it was a kid fairy tale but turned out how bad ass Noland/Calgara were. It makes you really wonder much of history is different to what we know.

Whoopsie

these 3 episodes were a game changer for me as well, the way a bromance between 2 side characters from 400 years ago made me fall in love with this show even more, like damn😭. this whole background just makes everything so clear and helps us understand better wyper's character. since he is kalgara's descendant, he's carrying this enormous duty of retaking what's theirs because his own blood literally died trying to protect it. the scene of him remembering the story of kalgara and noland (a shandian trusting a weird intruder to save his people) as he watches luffy going up to beat enel tf up and stop him from fully destroying his land, to me it's him realizing that history is repeating itself and now he needs to have faith in this (also) weird intruder and let him help to protect his home. this is just some of the most beautiful writing in op, how these two friends had so much admiration for each other because of how different their ways of living are, their relationship being so strong that when the promise of their reunion fell through we can see how it haunts generations after them, even 400 years later!!! i just can't believe how theres people that skip this arc, i literally can't wait to yap even more about how endearing this story is, cause the end of it is just as good as this big reveal, thanks for the triple drop!♡ i'm so excited for the next couple of episodes

beannieswife

I hope they skip the Long Ling Longland Arc... worst Arc ever but next arc.. water 7 i can't wait

Nah it was Enel’s priests that sacrificed luffys crew. I dont think the shandorans still practice it because they are in direct conflict with “god” enel

pascal lankreijer

Food for thought: fiction is not necessarily representative of the history of all peoples. Easy to fall into anachronism with how much media is put out during this era that simplifies historical trends. Cultures are complex and used human sacrifices for various purposes according to their own cultural logics (which necessarily means “diverse” sacrifices comparatively given how diverse cultures are from one another across time and space). Realize that contemporary social constructions (gender, race) have not existed in every culture the same way throughout human history ~~The kind of stuff I think about when watching media. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_human_sacrifices https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_sacrifice_in_pre-Columbian_cultures https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_constructionism

Percy

You guys are silly not wanting to read the title of the episode..LOL.. think about it.. anyone who has watched it when it first aired I doubt anyone really turns away due to spoilers.. Watching anime.. there always is a little bit of spoilers and nothing wrong with seeing a little bit of whats to come.. its hardly ever the entire story but a glimpse to whats to come and sometimes that gives more excitement for things to come...

Chase023

Ron " How could they know about a ritual 400 years ago? Me & Robin "BOOKS/STORIES BAKA" Lmaooooo sorry but that was hilarious

ShaquanVirse

Man if you guys enjoyed this backstory, it only gets better from here

Idris A

Actually no, its the same size, I looked it up in the manga, also in the Wiki its stated that its the same size as Nola. The parent of Nola was smaller because it wasnt that old I guess but the one Noland Kills is the GRANDPARENT

Vincent Baierl

These episodes are so damn good. When it cuts back to Wyper after all that and you see the destruction of Skypiea and Shandora, it puts so much into perspective. Can't wait to see you guys close out this arc. It all ties back to the book Noland the Liar that Luffy and the gang found down on Jaya and Montblanc Cricket, the guy who was diving in search of the City of Gold that Noland saw. That book painted Noland as some goofy little liar but we get to see here he was a badass. History will often simply tell what those in power at the time want it to tell. Also good catch noticing the wings on the Shandians and the line about when Shandora "fell". There are a few random lines that kinda hint at what might be going on there, but that is for the theory crafters. Good speculation!

SomeoneElse

You know what's funny? Kalgara is the third hokage while Noland is Jiraiya. They're just arguing as close friends/teacher/student in a different universe LOL

Emil Yi

i think it’s kinda unfair .. that people ask multiple times for a triple on naruto .. and we don’t get it .. but the one piece fans do .. disappointing tbh

Antonio

These episodes are so good; the storytelling is amazing.

José Carlos Soares Junior

Im just so excited for u guys from this point on in One Piece knowing what's to come. Its stories like this with this kind of depth why One Piece is my absolutely favorite anime of all time. I cant wait for u guys to witness how much BETTER One Piece gets!

The CulturedGentleman

Now for cover story info since the anime said fuck adapting that shit!! Do you guys remember Jango from Syrup Village (Usopp home) The cover story follows him escaping and landing on another island - The big thing about this story is how he befriends a Marine(Fullbody - The rude Marine from where we first meet Sanji) and is eventually found by Hina who arrives (She was introduced at end of Alabasta - Jango gets pardoned of his crimes and joins the Marine under her

ShaquanVirse

Put that responsibly on me

ShaquanVirse

It is one of the best backstories. The weight of it is so heavy yet bittersweet that it was very hard to contain. And Skypiea arc, actually the whole One Piece, is full of symbols I love it.

theshittycook

It wasn't easier for noland to cut the snake. He's just that strong.

Espar

they never met again 😭

Minori D. Hunter

Bro be fr that snake is waaaaaayyy smaller than the one in skypea rn lol but I do agree noland stomps zoro rn

Darren Metts

The other thing I wanted to mention is that the Nolan’s the lier book that was in the Jaya arc talks about Nolan’s saying the city of gold must have sunk into the sea. This is because he doesn’t know what happened but that’s the best explanation he could come up with because the knock up stream that sent the island up and luffy and company rode is not really common knowledge.

Jack Rabe

They finna be balling next arc

Darren Metts

So when Kalgara says when Shandora “fell” he is just meaning they were defeated. It doesn’t go into detail about how it happened but it’s not talking about actually falling from the sky just that they fell or like collapsed as a society.

Jack Rabe

Please upload Tokyo ghoul its 3:53am I need to sleep PLEASE

Quburto

this resolution in these final episodes is why WE DONT SKIP SKYPEIA

jeremychavez

All will be explained in due time my friends

Dan Richa9097

Why Shandians have wings, is something that has not been mentioned in the anime, but each manga chapter has an opening panel with either a fan art or a little story, in one of them it is implied that Shandians, Birkans (the other sky island) and Skypeians are the same race, therefore Shandians have wings even though they live in the blue sea

Bidmer

Is just one piece guys they got the most interconnected and beautiful history I ever seen

Enzo Torales

Sequences like this are why I watch reactors. Like, as a kid I just flat out didn’t get it and now that I’m older it’s just so clear how great a writer Oda is. As for the wings? Idk, I think he’s cooking something there because even the Skypieans don’t actually use their wings and Sky People like Enel and Gan Fall don’t have wings. I really think that it’s as simple as “these people in this area of the world have wings” and that’s it. We’ll see in the future, but the fact that Skypieans and Shandians have wings and also some Skypieans don’t is so interesting. It has to be intentional.

stillwaters

Same man same

Chayanne Acosta

One of the most heartbreaking backstories in One Piece, glad you guys decided to watch all 3 episodes. Not only was it a great story but it also adds much more depth and context to Wyper and his people's plight. We have a greater understanding now of why this all matters so much to Wyper as a descendant of Calgara.

100Rainy

damn i really enjoyed that story of Noland and that red haired guy

Ron Jackson Jr

Where'd they get the needles from?! I mean.. They just had a whole discussion about advancement and cures lol. Noland's ship doctor would just have them 🤣

SomeoneElse

Also ye Luffy and the Crew were about to be sacrificed but not by the shandians, but because of enel

Vincent Baierl

Glad I’m not the only one who loved this backstory so underrated

It was the same Kind of snake so noland is just HIM, hes at least way stronger than Zoro right now
