@Marcos Cruz While that may be true about the genjutsu, The show does this constantly (finding every excuse to add flashback or padding), in so many different ways to pad the story. I get exposition is good at times but there is a reason why Naruto is the only show/anime that is padded with this much flashback, filler and talk no jutsu. It was a flawed method of story telling that thankfully is not going to be revisited by any author even Kishimoto.

For Genjutsu, in simple terms if you get bonked in the head by someone else that isnt under it... it breaks the Genjutsu. If you cant break it yourself, you need to rely on someone around you. Remember back to when Granny Chio explained it to Naruto as he first "encountered" Itachi at the start. It was all a Genjustu and Sakura smacked the shit out of Naruto to wake him up. Sooo in theory, a 5 year Genjutsu isnt impossible... but highly unlikely. Especially for a Ninja her rank.

I have to disagree. Danzo is very clearly obsessed with growing his own power beyond any small desire to protect the hidden leaf. He was willing to let hundreds-thousands of shinobi die against pain instead of providing support just so he can gain more influence. He killed the uchiha to steal their eyes, he stopped shisui because he wanted that outcome. That's not for the village sake the uchiha were a valuable asset. It was for himself. His scene not sacrificing himself like hirzuen in the pastnwith the 2nd hokage is a show of his character selfish not selfless

@Patrone07 - exactly ! Kabuto ended up like this because of Orochimaru (and Danzo for taking him away from the orphanage). Had Kabuto grown up in the orphanage with Mother and the other kids, he would have ended up like a better version of Naruto. This episode shows, once again, what happens to kids that do not have a proper up bringing and how adults impact them (Naruto, Sasuke, Garaa, Kabuto, Nagato and so on). Naruto, at the end of the day, had the Third Hokage by his side and worrying about him. And of course, he had Iruka Sensei who loved him and "raised" him.

Ron you have to remember, for the genjutsu you're referring to with Danzo it was with Shisui's eye. Kabuto is around 7 years older than our main characters, so around the age he was admitted to the orphanage our characters weren't born yet and the Uchiha were all very much still alive. The other theory with the Sand ninja to allow Deidara and Sasori in the village was a sleeper agent technique used by Sasori to seal away their memories in a time release. I don't think it's considered a genjutsu but I could be wrong. Also I didn't think we've seen anyone but Sasori use it.

I think Kabuto and Itachi are of the same age give or take a year or two. So I am like 99% sure at the time danzo took kabuto from the orphanage he did not have shisuis eye or any of the other Uchihas. And yea, it was a sand ninja that was manipulated by Sasori. Danzo doesn't have that power himself. He stole one of the Sharingan eyes from Shisui Uchiha. This is because Shisui's eyes have the strongest genjutsu, Kotoamatsukami. This jutsu can manipulate someone without their knowledge. It can also only be activated once every 10 years. I don't believe he used this eye on Nounou. It was the gradual brainwashing as Orochimaru said. Speaking of Orochimaru, he did as he always does and pounced on someone at their lowest point to manipulate them, the same he did with all the other Sound children. He really is a sly fellow. Btw Michelle, no need to be hating on the prescription glasses lining up lol. Miracles do happen! He’s never felt like he knew himself and belonged anywhere or to anyone before he met Orochimaru…and even he only kept him around for his talents. Ron what you are remembering is the brief backstory they showed of the Hidden Mist. They showed that Madara (Tobi) was controlling the 4th to reign over the village via genjutsu until he was killed. However, Madara had to be near him to have full control; I don’t think it’s ever mentioned if they can be leagues apart and the mind control would remain, or at least I don’t remember.

Danzo had his eye bandaged, so he might’ve had it, but again doubtful using it on single shinobi. Even reanimation Itachi during Naruto/Bee/Nagato fight, said the Kotoamatsukami can take up to 10 years to reactivate.
