2025-10-28 15:14:28 +0000 UTCI was also encouraged by (re)hearing Skye's testimony about the Word of Knowledge/Prophetic Word/Spiritual Insight (choose your favorite term, or none of them) that he received. As I struggle to make sense out of who or what to trust these days, I think my current distinction would be: 1) When a fellow Jesus-follower seems to receive a very directed insight for another person, and it's presented in a personal, private, low-key manner, I'm willing to place a high degree of trust that was a "true word". 2) When a self-proclaimed prophet (who *always* seems to have a book to sell you) stands on stage and shouts statements to crowds of hundreds, I've become far more skeptical that I'd be witnessing true "prophecy". In the past, I've personally been part of a Word of Knowledge team, sometimes experiencing startlingly specific insights for total strangers as they visited our tent at community festivals. (We operated in teams of 3, which added to the accountability.) But these days, I can't quite figure how to find a group of the "1)" type of folks while steering clear of those enamored by the "2)" types. It sure seems like prestige, profit and power are their motivations. (Which aligns with the hypocrisy theme.)
