I've only watched through One Piece once, and have always wanted to rewatch past episodes. So I especially like rewatching it with you guys. Plus, I barely remember a lot of the details, so this fills in some gaps that I had forgotten about. Gotta remember Luffy was awful at using his devil fruit for a long time. He couldn't hit anything to save his life. Plus the 4 year age gap between Ace and Luffy, any 16 year old is gonna demolish a 12 year old kid. Not to mention the rapid growth Luffy went though when his pirate journey started. I do agree Ace is stronger but I think the gap is smaller than we think and a lot of that gap is attributed to the Logia buff at this point in the story.

Because One Piece is such a huge story, you won’t always find every answer just by watching the anime. To get the full picture, you’ll need to explore those extra materials too. About Ace devil fruit, in Alabasta Luffy was suprised Ace got one too, so its safe to assume he got it after leaving their home island. If you want a hint in water seven when Guarp introduced the Emperors (whitebeard, Shanks and the 2 others) he did say the navy allied with the shishibukay to face them so their crew are strong

This is actually my first time watching this part of the marine ford arc so I'm kinda dead with the pacing & the art style 🤣 even though I understand the anime company circumstance. I wish you could read the manga in your free time for arc you watched especially the marine ford arc, the art style is incredible. also the additional scenes by anime team doesn't necessarily always align with Oda's story, they kinda mess up with many misinformation so reading the manga and QA with Oda (SBS corner) is better for understanding the story.
