2025-08-21 03:16:46 +0000 UTCI have always interpreted Maomao in this section as not ignorant or oblivious of Jinshi's status, so much as she came to that conclusion ages ago but thought, "it would invite a lot of trouble for me if i knew this information" and ever since has driven the thoughts out of her head to the point of actively denying any new information that confirms her theories.

One of my absolute favorites!!! 💚💜 I was internally screaming with excitement when I saw this scene finally animated! 😆❤️🐸 Jinshi is wearing a mask to hide his true identity as the Emperor’s younger brother. No one knows what he looks like, as he’s officially described as being “constantly ill” and rarely makes public appearances. Because of his royal status, he's attending the hunting trip as a distinguished guest, invited personally by Prime Minister Shishou. The Emperor himself was also invited but “couldn’t make it” likely because appearing in public would increase the risk of assassination attempts. And yes, you guys were right! The food Mao Mao tasted for Jinshi was actually prepared by servants of Prime Minister Shishou, under his direct orders since he is the host. The dishes were deliberately made with a heavy dose of aphrodisiacs, meant to boost male vitality specifically to stimulate the male organ and warm the body. This was likely a ploy to force Jinshi into either removing his mask publicly due to the effects or to tempt him into accepting "extra services" in his room perhaps in hopes of getting a look at his face. That’s also why Basen had a nosebleed immediately after eating since those food invigorating effects was that potent. And notice how Jinshi keeps asking Mao Mao whether the food is 'really' safe for him to eat? It’s his subtle way of hinting to her (and hinting to us the audience) that he’s definitely not a eunuch and in perfect health in that department. Of course, MaoMao being herself is oblivious and has no business in that and does not get herself involved in anything(politically etc).
