I remember when it was airing, a lot of people DEMANDED more of the Shippuden characters, and which is why it started to go south and the author Kishimoto had to come in and help with the story. Then a lot of people by that time were uninterested. Reminder that it was 1 new episode per week, and no one was getting fed any good material. Also people who read the manga KNEW it would get better, especially with the author stepping in, so it was a division if Boruto was good or not.

Even Madara didn’t just absorb everything. He’s not able to infinitely absorb energy through his. Not all rinnegan have the same exact abilities just like sharingan. That’s why other rinnegan users don’t just switch places like Sasuke. They’re not nerfed, they’re fighting literal aliens that are levels above the ultimate villain in Shippuden which took Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, obito, Sakura and special seal powers given by the sage of six paths.
