I'm so glad to hear Kaitlyn is finally reading the Harry Potter books! They're some of my all-time favorite books! I'm going back through them and am on the last one now. We're also reading them as a family because my youngest daughter has never read them before. We're near the beginning of the sixth book, and she's really enjoying them. I know it's a lot, but I'd recommend going back and re-reading them at some point so you can see the whole story with all of the information you know by the end. It's a whole different experience than reading it through the first time, and you'll pick up on so much and connect so many things that you didn't even know to look for the first time around.

There was even a brief, but memorable, appearance of a certain asparagus!

Joel Buursma

Loved the part where Kaitlyn was like, American evangelicals don't listen to theologians AND IT SHOWS.... 🤣 But she's right! I'm guessing it's seen as too tradition-based and/or catholic?

Sarah

Sorry that I missed this. I hope that you do this again soon. I have a couple of questions.

Rich

There's an episode from wayyyyyyy back in the day where Christian interviewed Skye and Phil's wives, if you're looking for an episode with more family members. It was 2012 or 2013 back when it was the Phil Vischer Podcast.

Glad you could join us!

I also think this is where Holy Post and other external sources of biblical/spiritual training really come into play. As all of us humans can be led astray, we need at times to be involved with the larger body of Christ. As we stay in a state of constant humility, we can see where God is moving outside of our church congregation and thus see where we might be called to, or see where we might be needing to be built up that our local church congregation isn't doing, etc.

Greg Evans

Yes, you can! Click on the Collections tab in patreon and go to the livestream collection. It should show all the previous ones, and the youtube link should still be active.

We usually prioritize the questions in the youtube chat, but it's always nice to have a few questions here ahead of time to get us going if there is a slow start, or if there is a lull in the middle of the livestream. We usually can't get to all the questions, but I'm glad they were able to get to yours! Mike

I want to toss in my thoughts about church. Where I think church "ultimately" happens is in the small group bible studies/covenant groups/etc. This is where we slow down, are able to ask questions, dig deeper into the bible and theology, get involved deeper in our relationship with Jesus and each other. In the Sunday Sermon, the pastor cannot really get in deep with what is going on with each person. That is where the small group comes in. Where grace, mercy, accountability, growth, healthy challenge, etc all comes in. Thus, why I often tell people that is where "church" really is. The big gatherings are VERY important. For those we need the bible scholars, theologians, etc to teach on a deeper intellectual, theological level than we can get on the small group. Here also I think ideally a small group should be coming out of a larger church so there is that extra layer unity, getting the same theology, etc. So, I would say picking the small group is even more important than what larger church one goes to.

I've been very busy and therefore much less engaged with the HP community. It was nice being able to be there for the stream last night. Thanks for doing these!

Question for Mike: it seems these Qs were not considered last night as they only seemed to be drawing from the YouTube comments? Was that an oversight? In any case, I dropped mine in there and it was covered in detail so l appreciate that!

There are a couple of “getting schooled” episodes that answer your question.

Laura Kasson

I have always believed in the discipline of tithing as well as Christian giving in the forms of offerings and alms. Many people are finding every scripture they can to prove why tithing doesn't apply to Christians. I have gone back and forth with them at various times over the years. Now people are saying that , "Jesus never tithed so we should not do it. If it was important, he would have taught on it like prayer." Since you talked about tithing and why the church used the commitment cards that you described, discuss the latest objections to tithing that you have heard.

Steve Thomas

What scores?

Would you consider having homosexuality and transsexuality and Christianity as a topic on your podcast? And if you already have, would you do it again?

Carl and Sue

Would you sit under the pastoral leadership of someone in a marriage of the same sex?

tc trimmer

Is it possible our orthodox view of marriage as only being between one man and one woman might be wrong in the same way Christians had a wrong view of slavery for thousands of years. Why is a committed monogamous same sex marriage between 2 Christ followers wrong in your thinking?

Steve Strong

How would you recommend talking to close friends or family who are Christian, and who were really spiritually encouraged by Charlie Kirk’s memorial service? (They genuinely see it as a very hopeful revival for the Church and country, and were very encouraged by how the gospel was shared by so many officials - including Marco Rubio and others?) I felt unsettled by the contrasting messages expressed in the service, but am told by friends and family that I should feel encouraged that the MAJORITY of the service was so “God honoring”.

Kirsten Tindall

And a technical question - is there a place to view past livestreams and I'm just missing it? (I've missed all the ones connected to the world born in you and I'd like to watch if I can!)

Morgan Feddes Satre

Fun question: you get to fill your Halloween bag with just one candy, which one is it? Harder question: in your seasons of hardship, did the things that fill your cup in happy times still do so or did they change? If changed, how did you figure out the new thing to help rejuvenate/refresh you?

Morgan Feddes Satre

I have long had this question: "If your sense of self-worth is distorted then wouldn't that distortion influence the way you interpret or practically apply; "Do to others as you would have others do to you?" What scriptural guides would you give to inform self-worth or what scriptures would define how to practically apply the "do to others" principle? Thank you for possibly considering my question. You have been a blessing to my Christian journey.

Frederick Bennett

You guys have talked before about some of the problems with centering Sunday morning gatherings around a sermon. What recommendations would you give to a church trying to transition away from such sermon-centric gatherings? How do your churches structure it?

Madison M

Curious as to what views you take on helping homeless, I’m always conflicted about giving money to the guy in the curb … am I just feeding an addiction or will they feed themselves ? I usually always just buy them food or give them a gift card to somewhere where they can purchases needs. N ver quite sure how to respond.

Nancy Cutler

I realize this may not seem pressing, but for so long I’ve wanted to hear a more personal take on what has led you to an egalitarian view of ministry leadership. From a very friendly questioner coming from a more winsome complementarían background
