Or rather, to be more precise: GT is not Toriyama canon as Toriyama had minimal design involvement and no writing involvement . Dragon Ball can effectively be split into 2 canons and one of those canons can be split into 2 more canons. There's Toriyama canon, which is everything Toriyama was directly involved with beyond design ideas. And there's Toei Canon, which is Toriyama canon + Anime filler + pre-Battle of Gods movies + GT. Then you can split Toriyama Canon into Toyotaro Canon (Dragon Ball Super manga + Movies) and Dragon Room Canon (Dragon Ball Super anime + Super Broly and Super Hero). Daima was originally going to be a web series made by the Dragon Room alone, but Toriyama liked the pitch and got deeply involved with the scripts for it. And like with Broly, they took something well loved from Toei canon and brought it into Toriyama canon (specifically Dragon Room Canon, although the Super Manga *did* tee up some hints about somethings explored in Daima, so that's a fuzzy line).
