Patron Update - March 17th

First of all, Happy St. Paddy's Day!

(Danny here)

I'm currently in Austin for SxSW (had a nice view of CoTA from my seat as we landed), and very tired after a late night watching the action in Melbourne. I'll hold off on details in case some of you have yet to catch up, but there's certainly a lot to parse with the wild differences in pace between the various cars and tires. We'll get to that in the next episode of the podcast.

I just wanted to give a bit of an update on what to expect on the Patreon for the rest of March. Drew's Nascar Eisenhower address will be first off the line - expect that next week. We got loads of questions for the Video Q&A so we're gonna spend some time on that one to make sure we answer as many as we can. You'll get that the following week. If you have any questions for that, now that we've a race behind us, stick them in the comments section below!

The next patron-exclusive podcast is likely going to be the Endurance Racing Primer we recorded during the break. It seems appropriate considering how Fernando and co did at Sebring this week. If you've not listened to our review of Williams make sure to grab your exclusive patron RSS feed right away. Here are details on how if you're having trouble.

Aside from that I went to a classic games store here in Austin and picked up a copy of Super Monaco GP on Genesis (Mega Drive) as well as a copy of Mario Andretti Racing on the same system. So you can expect them to come up in the next round of Let's Play votes. I'll be recording my Geoff Crammon video once I get back to the studio. I'm on the road for another week as I travel to San Francisco for the Games Developer Conference. We've also taken feedback on additional tiers that you may be interested in and will be adding some of those over the next few weeks. Thanks for all that feedback, it was really useful.

I hope you enjoyed the race wherever you are. Don't forget, March is a two-race month with the teams en-route to Bahrain for the second round of the 2019 season on the final day of the month. So loads more to come from us, and the racers, before we reach April.

Thank you so much for all your support!

Talk soon,

Danny

Season 2 episode 1 is going to rock.

I’m not a Ferrari fan but I like Leclerc which is why I find it annoying. Chances are that it will not matter in the long run, but part of me (the part that doesn’t like Ferrari) wouldn’t mind if that point was costly in the end.

Nathan Winder

Yup. I take it back, you’re right - I just read BBC report than Binotto decided to “bring both cars home” and asked Charles to back off. I don’t think I’m that pissed considering Red Bull and Mercedes clashes in past that lead to zero points. And yes, now I’m very curious to see what the rest of the season would look like with these two breathing down each other necks. We know Vettel has “take no prisoners” attitude so Leclerc better keep his tempter cool otherwise we might see another team double retirement.

Tohir Tillyaev

Oh I agree. Fair point that it was a bit of a spoiler. 100% with everything you said about Ferrari.

Nathan Winder

If you believe that then I've got a bridge to sell you. Leclerc was closing at ~1 second per lap, closed down to 0.3 seconds behind Vettel, then backed off to 2+ seconds in less than a lap. It was 100% team orders and a disgraceful thing for a team to do on race 1 of a season. Not that I expect any better from Ferrari.

Tygre

Fair point. Edited.

Nathan Winder

Spoilers man :) and I’m very curious to hear post race interviews because I don’t think they did it to protect Vettel. I think Leclerc was taking too much out of his tires and with a possibility of a safety car - Charles was risking leaving himself defenseless.

Tohir Tillyaev

It was a fun season opener, let’s put it that way. And I think there are even more open questions now, which I love!

Tohir Tillyaev

How soon do you think Ferrari will regret the Leclerc v. Vettel dynamic?

Nathan Winder
