2017-07-15 10:03:43 +0000 UTCI'm can understand your hesitancy with making this vid but I'm super glad you decided to, because we need more nuanced discussions of media & representation. Representation is obvs important, but more complicated than "You are X Identity and this movie has X Identity People in it, so you should Like it." I'm fairly neutral on both the old and new Ghostbusters, but similar to you, the weird political push to see the new one because it had Women in it (which of course made it better than the old one!!) also rubbed me the wrong way. Also, your point about this weird intersection of identity and politics (i.e., that girls who like Bernie only like him because they want to get with BernieBros, or because they hate their mothers??) was super interesting, if you'd want to explore that more.
