Mini (~2 min) Lupin semi-video essay and podcast appearance

I went on the Asinine Lupin podcast and had a really great time (some of the most fun I've ever had on a podcast guest spot ever) and I went on a two minute rant about character dynamics and tone in the Lupin III franchise during the episode. I'm working on a video essay about the franchise and basically just talk about what I've been thinking about for that but unscripted. I decided to take the rant and cut clips to it and give it to the podcast for promo but even though it isn't scripted it works as a miniature video essay so here it is! It'll be posted by me and them on twitter later after rev gives me captions (I'll add them to this youtube upload when I get them too). Here's their description for the episode-

Welcome back dear listeners, we bring you a very special episode live from lockdown featuring new guest Shannon Strucci! We cathartically discuss two episodes featuring a locked up Lupin III, explore the dynamics of the Lupin/Zenigata rivalry/love affair, and examine the characters as demigods and actors of A+ rated competency porn. Shannon also regales us with tales of delicious (or maybe dank) Southern delicacies and we go on many tangents relating to the many live-action forays our beloved franchise has taken. We highly recommend you watch the episodes discussed in the episode, this includes Lupin III Part I Episode 4 'One Chance to Break Out' and Lupin III Part IV Episode 12 'La fine di Lupin III', they are favourites of all of ours so we strongly suggest you check them out!

I have been spending most of my time on a freelance project so no extra video this month/there won't be a charge except for the Venture Brothers video. Thanks for the support!

I don't know much about really early shonen but I guess it predates shonen too which is interesting? Or at least the like, Toriyama-influenced post-DB/DBZ shonen with the really strongly defined archetypes and stuff. It pulls from the same classic archetypes but has people who are the best at what they're doing but still never satisfied. And YEAH that episode is so good. Zenigata is my favorite character and Part IV seems to really understand him in ways V definitely didn't. I'm midway through V and not loving it. In part because I feel like it's trying too hard to be a shonen series including some nasty/weird tropes from that

Honestly, out of the ~100 episodes of Lupin I've seen so far, The End of Lupin III stands out as the one with the most substance on its bones, (although other parts of IV and TWCFM rival it) so I'm very excited to listen to this pod! I also really like the insight that Lupin as a franchise is essentially a prolonged exploration of the endstate of shonen stories, I never thought of it like that but it makes a lot of sense.
