SUPER SECRET BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO PREVIEW....

Everybody did their covid era video essays in 2020 and I guess this is going to be mine, my version of "everyone is completely ill and off the deep end now and here's how I feel about it"

My video essay/review on The Teeth never got that many views, but I did have multiple people tell me I got them into The Teeth due to it. So maybe with this video I can call attention to a different, more unhinged musical performer who I am a fan of, and get more people into his work. Maybe this video will also get actual views. lol.
This is not a video essay clip! This is a screen recording where I talk for ~10 minutes off the cuff about the video I'm working on and my process!
If you want to do a little homework before watching the eventual video essay (this is all optional lol):
-Read Roadside Picnic (it's only 200 pages)
-watch Hypernormalisation (tw for everything)
-Check out this song and this song paying close attention to the lyrics. Then immediately watch this this and this : )

-I don't even know what to recommend for Connor O'Malley if you haven't seen his work previously. His newest video (NSFW) is as good as any! I'm a big fan of his!

-If you somehow haven't seen Alex Jones Rants as an Indie Folk Song, watch that too

Check the little video here out!! And let me know if I should do more WIP videos like this as I make more video essays?

SUPER SECRET BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO PREVIEW....

Comments

I finally caved and I'm probably gonna rewatch and pull from Can't Get You Out Of My Head too lmao. RIP. I could have spent a week just reviewing Swords fot an easy video instead but I want the video to be more meaningful so I'm going really hard

Shannon Strucci

"i'm tired!" lol i was getting tired just looking at this--really makes me appreciate how much work goes into stuff like a video essay

surasshu

Oh awesome! I'd say take a second to listen to Swords and if you don't have time or energy for the whole album check out Sometimes and Shakedown. I also like Shadows and Stairwell a ton. The whole album is good. I'm not as big on Heart of Mold and Etc. but I do love All Shook Up off of Etc. All Shook Up didn't hit me very hard at first but actually listening to the lyrics it's fantastic. He and I are around the same age and he put out Etc. around the same time I started my youtube channel and he was way ahead of me at the time as far as where we were in ability our respective mediums lol

Shannon Strucci

Hell yeah, I'm extremely excited for this. I got into Nick Lutsko's work recently (I actually think it was probably because you mentioned him on Twitter), but I've only ever listened to his post-Swords silly YouTube stuff.

Robert Phillips

Oh, yes, easy mistake to make. I've wanted to play "Blade Runner as reimagined by Hideo Kojima" Snatcher for a long time too.

Colin Ferguson

Can't Get You Out Of My Head is great too though I disagree with more of it vs Hypernormalisation I don't mind janky games! I love Deadly Premonition lol. Also I'm just realizing that for years I have mixed up Snatcher and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. lmao. Oh well. Luckily I like FPS games too

Shannon Strucci

I hadn't seen it, but I did just finish reading it's Wikipedia entry and I'm fascinated. I'll have to watch it soon. As for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, they're pretty janky, the result of a studio with too little experience and too large ambitions. But if you can get past the jank, they're still quite good. They have a kind of atmosphere that hasn't yet been matched by anything else. This trailer for the not-yet-released (having your country invaded will slow down development) S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 does a really good job of selling the kind of mood the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games evoke: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4xyN1n7ysQ

Colin Ferguson

Have you seen Hypernormalisation? Not that Curtis spends the whole time talking about Roadside Picnic, but it's probably worth watching. This interview is really good too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZypbVJ16Jk I still need to watch Stalker but the fact that a bunch of people died due to making it is really depressing. And I have meant to play the games for years! So I'll probably play at least one of them before I finish this video!

Shannon Strucci

You had me at "Roadside Picnic". (I have a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. cosplay so this instantly got my interest.)
