Unchained (Tour de France Netflix Series) - Review

Hey Patrons,

It's the summer break, a time when many F1 drivers take time off to relax and do things like ultra-marathons and extreme long-distance cycling competitions. So in an act of solidarity we here at Shift+F1 are sitting down for a marathon of cycling action by reviewing the first four episodes of Tour de France: Unchained - the Netflix docu-series brought to you by the people behind Drive to Survive.

This is a fantastic series that all of us had a lot to say about. Especially as one of us is a fairly prolific cyclist, another grew up watching the Tour and the third has recently become obsessed with the sport. Podcast long-timers can probably figure out which is which yourself.

Enjoy the show, and we'll see you soon for pre-Zandvoort!

Jonas Vingegaard is from the northern part of Denmark and we are known to have quite the accent, so that is probably why it sounds like he is pronouncing his name differently than the regular dane. We have a certain dialect which the rest of the country sometimes need subtitles to understand.

Apparently the production team behind this is called Box to Box films, and they've actually done more than Drive to Survive, this, and the golf and tennis series (called Full Swing and Break Point, respectively). According to their website (https://www.boxtoboxfilms.com/productions/) they've done a series about Six Nations rugby, one about sprinting, one about surfing. Hell, they produced the Senna documentary, and they've also done either films or series about individual sportspeople including Ronaldo and Maradona, and musical artists including Oasis and Amy Winehouse.

If you guys are looking for racing movies to watch then I will HIGHLY recommend The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix. It's a Norwegian stop-motion movie from 1975 that revolves around an F1-style race. It's still the most-watched movie in Norway and also was a big inspiration for a young Christian von Koenigsegg to create the Koenigsegg CC, the first of the Koenigsegg line of supercars.
