Something a little different! From time to time I'll get out some scrap paper and absent-mindedly doodle my little guys when I'm trying to shake around the ideas in my brain. I usually pick at a sheet over the course of a week or two until it fills up and then set it aside.
This here is the first full sheet I did for the comic, which I started a few days after I drew the first comic. As you can see, I was (and kind of still am, tbh) nailing down everyone's proportions and outfits a bit. Rachael, Charlie's rat-like roommate, definitely shook things up a bit, as she sort of came to me in the moment while I was writing the comic that she ended up debuting in. At first I had drawn her shorter than Charlie, but then quickly realized that Charlie is already very short next to Danae... so I wound up changing my mind and bumping Rachael's height to be roughly the same as Charlie. Danae stands about a half-foot taller than the others, though Rachael's ears close that gap a bit, as you can see in the very rushed height comparison sketch I stuffed in the bottom corner.
Again, it's all a work in progress! I'm sorta writing this whole thing by the seat of my pants to some degree -- with previous comics I tended to think too much about stuff and get myself stuck in a rut, so with Hedgehog's Dilemma I'm keeping things fast and loose and just kind of seeing what happens when I put a pencil to paper. So there'll probably be a lot of little inconsistencies here and there, at least early on, and I'm doing my best to just kinda let it be what it is instead of nitpicking everything, haha. As of this post, I'm currently writing/thumbnailing comic #7, and I kind of can't believe it?? But I think trying not to make everything perfect has contributed to that fast pace, for sure.
Anyway, as always, thank you for your support!! I'd really like to share more behind the scenes stuff here when I can, if people are interested!
